He came to my consultation recommended by an old friend from the Faculty, with whom I had a close friendship since we were children. Although he wasn't the first person to send me, I knew right away from the way she looked that this woman was not going to be an easy case to deal with. As a psychologist with some experience I understood, he barely began to tell me the details of his story, that he had a case of difficult solution on his hands.
The physical aspect that she showed was, in my opinion, the mirror that evidenced the particular hell that her soul was going through. Hell from which, on the other hand, I was completely sure that I would not be able to alleviate it with my professional advice or even by prescribing a revolutionary chemical panacea such as Prozac.
Lying on the comfortable divan, I lay with my hands crossed on my chest, and in a flash of my imagination, it seemed to me the closest thing to the sight of a corpse that I had ever seen, if we except that of my father, whose white shroud His face was pale and worn by the pain of the terrible disease that had ended his life at a relatively young age.
The woman -she responded to the name of Maruja- still took a few minutes to forget her initial reticence in front of a stranger, even if it was a doctor. Still, knowing full well how distressing it was for her to free herself from her story, I figured the best way to gain her trust was to use the weapons of patience. And in fact, such a decision was the right one, although he still took his time, I imagine calculating the pros and cons.
Having been conveniently warned by my friend, I canceled all my appointments for the morning, so that I had more than enough time to listen and draw my own conclusions.
Behold, faithfully reflected, what was hidden in the depths of her heart, common -I know-, to a very high percentage of Spanish women:
