I will be talking about the effect of forgetfulness.
From my own point of view, forgetfulness is the inability to remember something e.g work, test, events e.t.c
Forgetfulness is a common thing among we humans irrespective of age or gender. Everybody is a victim of forgetfulness. Probably lost your keys, couldn't remember your friend's birthday, forgot what you studied in exam hall. So it happens to everyone in this life. When forgetfulness becomes worst, it can affect your day to day activities such as work, relationship and can also affect our health.
Lets take a look at how forgetfulness impacts us and what we can do about it.
Daily Life struggles
Assuming you're rushing out of your house for an emergency and you couldn't find your phone. You have searched all corners in your room only to find out it has been in your pocket 😅. You will feel so annoying, although it wouldn't cause much harm. So if forgetfulness becomes a habit, perhaps it will disrupt our personal life.
Forgetting deadlines of a job, appointment or even maintaining your vehicle can affect your plans and cause unnecessary stress. While for students, it may affect their studies causing them to read and forget easily. For mechanic, he might forget to tighten a particular nut or the tire wheel, which might put the driver in a serious risk and probably result to serious accident. All these can cause serious pain and frustration in our life.
The Impact on Relationships
Inability to remember things in a relationship can be hurtful. For instance have you ever forget your partner's birthday or anniversary? Not that you intentionally forgot, but your partner will feel he/she is not important in your life.
Sometimes in a meeting, we forget details about what someone told us, it might seem like we weren’t really listening. This can make friends, family, or partners feel ignored or unappreciated. No one likes to feel like they don’t matter, and repeated forgetfulness can create distance in relationships.
The Emotional Toll
Most time if you keep forgetting things. It can make you to start questioning yourself. Is it that I don't listen enough or am I dump to recall things that happen in the past. All this self-doubt could worsen the initial problem. Some people withdraw from some social activity duties like being a secretary in a meeting. Because they barely recall things
In elderly people, serious forgetfulness can be a sign of conditions like dementia, which can be scary for both the person experiencing it and their loved ones. Recognizing these signs early and seeking help can make a big difference.
Forgetfulness at Work and School
At work, forgetting important things can cause you your job. Assuming missing a deadline of a presentation because you forgot about it. Your supervisor Wil look you as an unserious being even if you have been good with your job. These could hinder you from getting promotion.
In students, forgetting important lessons or assignments can lead to failure. It’s frustrating to spend hours studying, only to forget key points during an exam😞. Probably in a group work, forgetfulness can lead to frustration and will rapidly slow down the entire group grade.
Forgetfulness Maybe Dangerous
At some point forgetfulness may only not be frustrating but it can also be dangerous.
Forgetting to take your drugs or inability to see the doctor when you're supposed to. These can cause health risk.
A bus driver who forgets to watch the side mirror before turning can cause serious accidents. Or a doctor who forgets surgical equipment in the body of a patient can cause death.
Couldn't remember to pay bills or not keeping track of your spending can can stress and anxiety
Highly risk job like construction, medicine, transportation mechanic all deals with human life, forgetfulness in these fields can cause death. Memory attention is very important in some professions.
Solving problem of forgetfulness
The most important thing is that forgetfulness is something we can get rid off, if we're serious to stop it. The following steps below 👇 can help.
Write some important things down like appointments, date of an events etc these can improve and help
Organize your home, office by keeping important things in a particular spot.
Get enough rest. Even the brain needs rest to function properly.
Try to solve puzzles and also read books, these helps to exercise your brain.
If forgetfulness keep getting worse everyday. I will advise you to see the doctor. Sometimes memory lost can be sign of something than need medical attention.
Conclusion
Forgetfulness is a part of life, but when it starts to cause problems, it’s worth paying attention to. It can make daily tasks harder, strain relationships, and even affect our mental health. The good news is that with a few simple habits, we can improve our memory and stay more organized. Taking care of our minds is just as important as taking care of our bodies, and small changes can make a big difference in keeping forgetfulness under control.
