Hello friends, all lovers of the world of education. Hopefully we are all in good health so we can continue to serve in the world of education. In this post, I want to contribute a little of my thoughts to arouse interest and desire to read in students. Because we all know that students' interest in reading is currently decreasing and this is one of our duties as educators.

Reading is the gateway to knowledge. By reading we can find out everything that has happened, is happening or will happen. It is so important to increase interest in reading to the point that there is an Indonesian proverb which says that reading is the gateway to knowledge. One source of reading is books, so reading is often associated with books. Books are a storehouse of knowledge and reading is the key.

The definition of a book as a storehouse of knowledge as mentioned above is that we can learn various branches of knowledge by reading. So reading is one of the most effective ways to find out about various knowledge contained in books which are the scientific works of clever and intelligent people. We cannot possibly open a storehouse (of books full of knowledge) if we do not have the habit of reading.

The habit of reading will arise from an interest and desire. We all know that what is called a habit is something that is repeated over and over again. So the reading habit is a reading activity that is repeated or always done. The habit of reading arises from an interest or desire that must be generated either from within the student or from outside the student, which of course is the responsibility of an educator to create it.

The impact of the low interest in reading is felt by us educators (teachers). Therefore, various methods are used by educators (teachers) to generate students' interest and desire to read. One of the teacher's efforts to increase students' interest in reading in class is by creating a space in the classroom which we call a Reading Corner. In one part of the classroom, it is arranged in such a way and various types of reading books are provided so that children can take the time to read when they are not in class or when they are taking a break from studying. The Reading Corner is a kind of mini library in the classroom.

With the formation of the Reading Corner, it is hoped that students will develop an interest and desire to read. But everything must be supervised and regulated by the class teacher. The method is that students are divided into several groups and each group takes turns every day to read books in the reading corner. The group that gets the assignment must tell their friends in front of the class about the contents of the book they are reading and this also increases students' reading literacy. After they tell you about the contents of the book, don't forget to give their classmates the opportunity to ask questions about what was said. This activity is one way to improve students' ability to communicate with each other.

There is no easy job but nothing is impossible if we are willing to try. Therefore, let's try various ways to increase students' interest and desire to read.

Thank you to everyone who has stopped by my post this time. Hopefully this will be useful in creating our young generation (students) who have the ability to read so that they become pioneers in the development of science.
