Last time I played Minecraft I got reeeeeally salty about a few of the changes they made to the game in 1.18. Mainly the ore generation. I had gotten a whole week into my world before I finally googled, "Not finding any ore in 1.18!!!!!" and discovered they made such vast changes to the ore generation and that the mine I had made was useless and no wonder I wasn't even finding any coal of all things.
So I grunted, closed the game, and didn't open it again.
I'm over that saltiness now and I'm prepared to try again, this time embracing the new update and the changes it brought.
Come with me, to the brand new Minecraft world of Fan'driel.
Due to the new world generation, I had to explore quite a few worlds in Creative before finally finding one worthy of setting up a Hardcore save in.
So many spawn points were located on tiny islands, or on mountains upon mountains of more mountainous terrain. You don't want to know how many worlds I rejected before I finally settled upon the seed all outta pepsi max. 🤣
Now that I've accepted the fact that I have to change my entire routine and mine upwards as well as deep down into the ground, obviously that distant mountain is going to be home to my mine.
It's also in a snowy biome. An area in which they've made it so you are required to wear leather armour in order to keep warm and not freeze to death.
So I have to do things completely opposite to how I'd normally do them! 😅
I guess that's a good thing, to be honest. Doing things differently.
There is a village a small distance away from the initial spawn point, and that's my first destination. There I shall take up residence in one of the villager's homes, feast upon their foods, and set up a little cow-breeding facility in order to farm up enough leather to create my armour. (and eventual books for my eventual library.)
I guess in return I can tidy up their village and make it more liveable. Maybe add a few more houses, throw a few vegetables at them, make them breed... friendly neighbourly stuff. 🤣
Now that I'm exploring on foot, I can see that this is treacherous terrain indeed. There are many skinny drops, ravines, and sudden caves in what is meant to be a plains/meadow biome.
I'm gonna have to do a helluva lotta terraforming!
First things first though, I need my leather armour. So the first thing I terraform is a nice flat piece of land next to the village so I can construct a cow pen and wheat field.
And then, while waiting for many cows to breed so I can cull them and breed them again, I tidied up the villager's village so that it didn't look quite so fugly.
It's definitely different trying to rush leather armour instead of iron armour.
Usually by now I'd have dug my mine, would have holed up and created a tiny base in the mine, and I'd be gearing up in proper armour instead of something that'll keep my person warm up in the snow.
By the time I had tidied up the village, I at last had a full set of leather armour.
After investigating, turns out the armour requirement is actually like the armour requirement for being friendly to the new piglin mob in the Nether -- only one piece is required. So I made a full set for no reason! What a waste of leather. 🤣
Anyway, with that out of the way, and all the cows required for the future library, and more steak than one person could possibly eat, it was time to begin mining at last.
I'm also going to clear some huuuuuuuuuge tracts of land... and build my very own manor just a small ways out from the village. Close enough to trade, hopefully not close enough for them to constantly encroach upon my vast lands of splendour.
Because I'm OCD when it comes to things in Minecraft, I made myself a nice long path to the mountain before even beginning the mine. 😅
But at last I was there, and got all set up for next time! Found some coal straight away too, which is always nice. Especially when I barely found any last time.
With how they've changed the ore generation, I'm going to be digging what I'm childishly calling an "up mine" as well as a "down mine." The "up mine" is where all the coal and emeralds is at, as well as the freezing cold that's going to hurt me, whilst the "down mine" will be heading off towards the iron, diamonds, and all things good.
I'm going to dig my way into the centre of that snowy mountain back there, then begin the mine! This time I have it all planned out and I will have nothing to be salty about! ... I hope. 😅
Until next time! 😄❎⛏️
