Entertainment on the farm with Jeremy Clarkson

I love me some good slow TV. Not every once in a while but for something in the background, slow TV for me is the way to go. A while back some friends of mine were totally about the series 'Clarkson's farm', and I literally had no idea what they were talking about. On a rainy day while hanging inside I watched an episode with them and I was totally hooked.

You might know Jeremy Clarkson from the series 'Top Gear' or the 'Grand Tour' which was all about cars in all sorts and kinds together with Richard Hammond and James May. But this series is all about Jeremy himself and his wife Lisa who have moved to a big farm in Oxfordshire and are starting to learn about farming life.

And there is a lot to learn!

Because when starting on being a farmer with zero experience, every aspect even if it is working the tractor (sure...the man has a lamborghini tractor) putting the seeds for the crops into the ground, learning how to deal with cattle and animals and how that works on the farm and most of all...learning about all of the regulations around farming. Jeremy seems to make nearly every rookie mistake possible, and his farming worker Kaleb is never too proud to point out what kind of mistake was made now.

One of the big issues that keep returning in the series is about the permit on team Clarkson having a farm shop where they can sell their local products. And although it seems like a no brainer to have a shop there to sell their own producs, you also see what kind of regulation comes into play along with opening a shop.

Now don't get me wrong....I'm not entirely drinking the koolaid of that everything that he is doing is good, and everybody who is against is wrong. And yes, the man is putting a big enterprice in an otherwise sleepy village. You can also wonder how much disturbance it will give the rest of the town. But the rest of the town tend to say they a lot more traffic coming ing, and that I totally believe. But just some things....they make me wonder!

And that is good on a slow series to also make that realisation, stuff that makes you think a bit.

The beauty of farming

What I also find really well portraited is how beautiful the life of a farmer can be, but also how brutal it can be in terms of very hard in very long days and not necessarily seeing that back in the returns.

And with that how nice the land and the landscape actually is in that region. Lush green hills, an variety of crops growing and animal life also everywhere.

One of the things that I don't like about big scale farming here in the Netherlans is the extent on how all resources are just used and used and the lack of sustainability isn't always there. Also the prices on what these farmers get in return it makes sense to go to the max. The margins are extremely small.

On this show you get a bit more of a glipse on what a local farmer does and how that works more in the community. I like that aspect. Farming for the community to use more in the community.

All in all

Apart from you getting a good idea on how farming life works in the serie Clarksons farm the serie itself is just hilarious. How it is filmed and what kind of situation they get themselves into. If you are a fan of the humor of 'Top gear' you will also like this for sure.

Rumors are that a season 4 is being filmed at the moment. I would love that idea because the previous 3 seasons did not tak eme very long to binge.

Go for it I would say!
