Just a while ago one of the girls who is also sitting in my office said out of nowhere: 'Hey, let's put the new Pearl Jam record on'. A new record? I know in general I am not the sharpest in these kinds of things, but a new record? Hmmmkay, that should surely be worth listening to for a bit!
And with these guys being into the field and steadily producing records for the last 33 years, they are always something to take serious if you ask me.

With the new album 'Dark Matter' which came out this year it feels like Pearl Jam did nothing special. The songs are more of what they were already doing and honestly, it is quite good as well! At least they stay true to themselves as always and that is why you know you can always put something on from them.
It is stable and quality and you get what you expect.
Let's have a look at what they have made now and back to some favorites from over the years.
Dark Matter
Boom, the new album from this years with the same album title, and there it was all of a sudden. That is a bit of the deal with them, they don't disappoint as you can just put on a random album and be sure that there is always quality there. But surprising or revolutionary? Nehhh, that is also not really the deal, but still plenty good for listening to!
You have these laid back songs like 'Wreckage' and those more heavier ones like 'Dark Matter' which is also a lot more groovy and with nice potenial for on festivals for singalongs and fingerpointing in their chorus.
And ofcourse with some big guitar solo's later one which I am not a fan off at all, but hey that is just personal taste.
The Fixer
Now this one I really love before heading outside for a bit. There is so much positive energy in this song. It is short, it is energenic, it has good climaxes in there, everything a song should need.
Coming from the 'Backspacer' album which I actually really liked and that was also a time where I saw them live again somewhere between 2010 and 2014. And wow, Eddie Vedder was a hot mess! Running around over the stage with literally a bottle of red wine in his hand didn't even effect the quality of his performance. This guy was a whirlwind and it suited him perfectly.
He also did some guestperformance that year...I am not sure where. Was it 'Them crooked vultures'? Im not sure anymore!

Ahhh just look at how young good ol'Eddie is in this video, talk about a long time ago! But this song was controversy in that time, a song about a boy being picked on and his suicide, this was something that was so explicitly pointed out in messages throughout the video in combination with the lyrics of the song, every thing is just so strong about it.
The message is sad and it is good that this started being spoken about in that time.
But apart from that, the song is also just really groovy and good to listen to and this is also one of the ones that I don't mind it when cover bands are playing it (which happens a lot, everyone and their mother wants to play Pearl Jam songs always.
** So, this music monday, what Pearl Jam songs are you listening to today?**
