Today is a special day!

Happy leap day guys! May the ancient IT systems crash down on you like they do once every 4 four year! No single Y2K event that had everyone sharp on what might happen, but a recurring situation which leaves 'everyone wondering how this could have happened and why it was not adressed 4 years ago'

Welcome in the modern world of companies!

So....what do you do?

Only since the last couple of years I have been seeing more from how companies function more. Before that I was also too busy seeing only one side of a business and that was one that was very well structured and where stuff really was planned out well efficient and structural. Something people always admired the departed for, and what turns out to be more than true as I see now. But that turned out to be the standard that I knew and that I had expected that was the normal. It isnt always the case as it turns out.

I'm always more than surprised to see what people are doing at their jobs. As in...imagine if the job would go away, what would be the consequence of it. And if the answer is, 'nothing would happen', I guess then you have the definition of a nice bullshit job. On the other hand as I have seen now witn a lot of generation difference courses, the demand for different stuff has also changed, which means there are new definitions to it all. I heard someone recently with a 'chief happyness officer' in their title and immediately all of my neck hairs were risen.

But on the other hand, is that maybe short sighted of me? Because nowadays these guys demand something else in their work, and maybe these new functions do make people work more sustainable? I really don't know.

But back to the leap day issues.

Sure all is logical by you that if you have your birthday on th 29th of februari and you have to fill in your birthday somewhere, that an calender opens op where you can click in your birthday. Nice calenders...it works.

But when filling in some days manually into systems, if have already ran into more systems giving the the 'this date does not exist' pop up in there. I was more than suprised by this again

This stuff puzzles me sometimes. We were able to put humans on the moon more than 50 years ago, we can write a code for all kinds of blockchains to automatically make everything work. We have AI making almost to new reality going on.

But having the IT proper for the 29th of february making all kinds of things crash? We didn't see that one coming and are taken off guard!

Haha, you can't even imagine how much I emphasize with this because here I hear these type of issues constantly from my boyfriend. Not even talking about the Spanish side (those always come from my end because I take care of these) but the Dutch side. He's often amazed that in this current time, things are still done this crappy at so many places. Not having the "schrikkeljaar" date automatically in a system seems like something from a fairy tale :)

I'm always happy that I was born a few days before this date, never having to deal with these issues myself lol.

Hahaha imagine booking a ticket at a crappy airline and needing to deal with this... boahh..happy it is not my birthfsy either. Puzzling times I find this!

Oh wow, a post all about my birthday! 😅 It's cool how nice people like you remember this date and makes an entire post about it. So, if there is anyone in the comments that have their birthday on the 29th... HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Wish you all leap babies a happy new year in life! untitled.gif

It's a glitch in the matrix. 😁 And Happy Birthday!

hahaha it truly is a glitch indeed!

But damn I am happy my birthday is not today haha ;)

It's the intention that counts! :)))

I keep forgetting it's a short month. All the better for the Landie arriving quicker so we can get out of UK.

The good thing of a short month is that there is salary earlier hahaha. But you are waiting for it and then leaving asap?

It’s amusing that these systems exist.. but I did work with a system that forgot to add North Dakota as a state in it lol. There’s all kinds of funny computer code bugs out there. They are after all done by humans!

work with a system that forgot to add North Dakota as a state in

hahaha this is also a nice one. Indeed sthis stuff is programmed by humans, but damn who forget to run the final check :D
