Another Warning About New Scams & Cyber Threats

As you may hear me say very often, scams are everywhere and we should be extra careful. Today, I saw something extra worrying and dangerous, so I wanted to share it with you.

I read a post on LinkedIn. It is public, but I will not share more information of the post author here.

In short, some shared their recent hack experience and is seeking urgent advice.

It all started with a suspicious message from a mobile carrier regarding their subscription.

Next alarming action was an email from Coinbase saying something about having already an account. The user could not log in, even after trying password recent. More emails were received by Coinbase that resulted to an account lock up.

More emails kept coming informing the user for password changes on accounts that were not used for years, and suddenly ... they notice that their mobile phone coverage has stopped working.

Multiple attempts were made to access their WhatsApp and Telegram accounts, raising more concerns about what was going on.

Then, they receive a few messages on Telegram

This is all very alarming. The worst is that this person was trying to reach his mobile phone customer support and it was not possible yet. As I understand there was a sim swapping and someone used their telephone number to access wallets. As they saw that the wallets were empty, they tried to reach the person in telegram and try to intimidate - blackmail them for money.

Something else very disturbing. On that same post, a fake Coinbase account came and commented publicly. I think that the scammers are already everywhere, looking for their targets and they are becoming smarter, planning their steps and actions carefully

It seems that it becomes more and more difficult to protect ourselves out there.
Please do me a favor and always be cautious and vigilant.

p.s. On the funny note of the day, my mother came home today and she said ..

I got a message for a delivery, and I gave the info but not credit card. I think I ll be ok, right;

I saw her sms and there were two fake messages for a fake package delivery.
Now, she refused to have given any address, but I really dont know what to believe.
Her, of all people, that I always advise her to always ask me.
Well, lets hope..

Thanks for sharing these warnings. There are dangers everywhere. Today, it looked like someone hade accessed one of my email addresses via Amazon's Japan site. I changed my Amazon password, but I might need to delete the email address.

We can never be safe enough.. I think that AI will make it even easier for them and we, users, will only be interested in other things and be careless.

Yikes! Scammers are coming out strong these days.

I take money if not reply

Lmao! You don't want my permission, surely

This scammer are getting wiser and they keep devising different means to scam innocent people, one just need to be extra careful out there. I just wonder how they usually gets someone's information

I think there are databases with lots of leaked personal data .. hackers always find a way to retrieve info 😔

That's really unfortunate

What effrontery?
That hacker has guts
Thanks for sharing

Scammers are everywhere. No doubt about it.
They are always looking for vulnerabilities to exploit.
A couple of days ago, a scammer posing as a lawyer called my mom. Informing that I've been arrested and they need the bail money. Good thing that my mom had the presence of mind and called me immediately to check. She was worried sick because of that call. And these scammers were smart. I complained to the authorities but nothing beyond a formal complaint.
Staying alert is the only way to stay safe from them.

Oh! There are scammers everywhere nowadays. These people just take the easy way out of hard work and trick people into giving away their money. These criminals should be severely punished!
