Are You New here? Here are a few tips by a senior hive member

in #hive-1679226 days ago

So you are new on the hive blockchain, right?

How you joined and which website or wallet you chose when you created your account, does not really matter. Without wanting to scare you off, it will be easier for you to adjust here if you learn a thing or two.

Hive blockchain is not like other social media channels you may have accounts in.

You are in the real web3; hive is a blockchain blended with, supporting different technologies, where real people enjoy a digital home while earning cryptocurrency rewards.

Hive is free to join and I can use many adjectives to describe it.

It can mean different things to different people, because it can be used in too many ways. A friend has joined recently and I am struggling to decide to what extend I should inform him of all the possibilities. Everyone's time is so precious and we really need to have the information so that we can take the best decisions about our moves and actions.

What is Hive to me

  • Alive: Hive has users from all over the world. There is not a time when the chain sleeps. Any time you feel like it, you visit, you interact, you get to know new people, you comment or post anything!
  • Exciting: I never experienced a boring day. There is always something new going on. A development, a new game, a new contest.
  • Educating: You get to learn hands-on what a blockchain is, how it operates, you can learn about transactions, consensus mechanisms but also non technical stuff if you visit communities that can be about gardening, traveling, photography, pets, gaming, skating and so much more
  • Fun: Same as above :)
  • Rewarding: I know that my posts, upvotes and comments will make me a few cents per day, which can be staked to my wallet, which will further provide some more passive rewards.
  • Empowering: My voice matters. I can comment and share my opinion about the projects, I can choose the witnesses I vote for (the ones who are running our blockchain), I can vote for the projects proposals. I am a piece of hive, hive is a piece of me.
(I could almost infinitely continue this, but you would think I exaggerate)

It can combine short posts, longer form posts, defi, play-to-earn, communities (and not sure if I forget something)

Sometimes I start writing and my thoughts lead me to a different point than the one I had in mind.

I wanted to post some advise as a next part to this post about new users: https://inleo.io/@katerinaramm/welcome-to-hive-inleo-a-beginners-guide-to-getting-started-6ds?referral=katerinaramm

But as this post comes to its end, I have decided to share a piece of advise that I find the most useful and the most important for the new users. This is what I did when I first joined and I still do.

- Stop. Observe. Explore

Take your time and explore different front ends such (but not limited to) as the below:

  • inleo.io
  • peakd.com
  • hive.blog
  • ecency.com

- See what people write and what they discuss about

- Take part in the conversation

- Think of what you would like to ask (google your questions or ask me)

- Try commenting in some posts

- Check your notifications, you may have some new replies or some new followers

- Upvote the posts you enjoy or follow the creators that you want

Reach out for more!

If you are thinking of creating your web3 journey now, you can use my referral link to join: https://inleo.io/signup?referral=katerinaramm and you can read this post for getting started in a few steps!

ATTENTION

Hive is a decentralized platform, and no one will ever ask you to send funds or perform transactions. Be cautious of scammers who may claim to be official support to deceive users. If you have any questions or need help, join the public discussions in trusted Hive communities on Telegram or Discord—avoid private messages. You can also reach out on X or feel free to ask me directly!

View or trade LOH tokens.

@katerinaramm, You have received 1.0000 LOH for posting in Ladies of Hive. We believe that you should be rewarded for the time and effort spent in creating articles. The goal is to encourage token holders to accumulate and hodl LOH tokens over a long period of time.

Thanks for the advice. It's apt

You and I are seemingly of the same frame of mind right now. We are also reflecting on how to best bring new people onboard. This post has some very useful points that I think any fresh face here can appreciate. I'm trying to collect as much information about HIVE and the different dApps as I can to help people make informed decisions when they open the door to this massive and complex ecosystem. Yes - people need to get lost themselves, but the learning curve can be steep and time consuming, so it's important that longtime users like use help simplify those first steps!

This is a great guide for newbie writers Coach!
