I have a confession to make, and a secret to share.
I joined hive back at 2017 and I had no idea what I was going to do here.
I joined because I was searching blockchain and things to do online, but I had little idea of what I was going to do after that.
When I joined, these questions were what I had in mind.
- Is this thing legit? Do users really earn and what can be done with this crypto?
- How do I use this thing? (there was only one platform back then)
- What do I do here?
- What do I write about?
Lets take them one by one
- Is this thing legit? Do users really earn and what can be done with this crypto?
When I first joined, there was not so much info all over the internet. There were not so many channels (like Discord, Telegram) where a user could find information. The native platform currency then, was not exchanged in the major platforms so we had to use alternative ways. My first transaction to convert to fiat was through the @blocktrades service.
Now everything is clear and easier. There are so many ways to use $hive and $hbd that we need one post to list them all.
- How do I use this thing? (there was only one platform back then)
I am not sure if it is easier to have just one platform or if there are many options. It had taken me a while to find out where to write, where to upload images from, where to find the replies etc. Back then, we did not even have notifications!
So if you are new, you certainly have an advantage here, finding out what dApp fits you the best! I personally use a combination of dApps on a daily basis.
- What do I do here?
That was very difficult to me. I came here to write and earn, so I was trying to find out how to really make it happen. The only way then was to be upvoted for your posts - comments or to receive 30% of the curation rewards (which meant that you needed to have a good stake to be able to earn some $)
Fast forward to 2025, there are so many ways to earn here!
We again need a whole post to list all the ways!
- What do I write about?
This took me a long time to figure out.
I was observing and reading a long time before signing up.
I continued to do it for 2 weeks after I signed up.
I was to ask questions, for understanding certain details that seemed so new to me.
I thought and thought and thought ... and finally I got a few ideas about posts I would be writing. I thought I should write about things I care, things I wanted to learn, things I could find information about. I wanted to be able to use my own photos, so I started to photographing more.
I experimented.
I created a few projects out of my research.
I learned one or two things about photography and now I got a large photography portfolio (part of it is online with million of views & downloads)
I followed a number of courses and I earned certifications & a Masters Degree.
Following users questions, tutorials and informative posts were created.
Apart from some other things that cannot be announced, what I can proudly say is that I have become a better person with way more skills that I would have if I never joined hive.
And the most important thing of them all, I have made some amazing real life friends.
