If it is indeed true that we have on an average anywhere between 50000 – 80000 thoughts per day, it is a shame that I can barely recall 10 by the end of the day.
But even as I am writing this, my mind is thinking of probably the words that I am writing. Now, this is important I would think as part of my productive day. But I doubt I could be having even 1000 thoughts per hour as I type this now.
Hmm… okay. Maybe 2000 – 3000 seems fair when you are performing a task. But it is those thoughts that I supposedly have when I am not doing anything important, maybe listening to music, or driving or putting on my shoes that I am talking about here. I can rarely recall the thoughts yesterday when I was doing these mundane activities. Sleep does wipe this slate clean.
Ok, even if I had 10000 thoughts in a day, I think I should be aware of 1000 thoughts. Who comes up with these researches and numbers anyways. It can mean only one of these:
1.I don’t have as many thoughts as research says we have.
2.I am forgetful.
3.My thoughts are not really of any use to me. They are those thoughts that probably don’t define me. It might be the lyrics to a song. Could have been a Potato, potahto, Tomato, tomahto situation and maybe I don’t recall because I have called the whole thing off.
4.I am not present in my mind.
There is another way I am going to look at it now. So, what if I have even up to 80000 thoughts in a day? Would the quality of my life be better if I can scale this down. Maybe it will or maybe it won’t. And I would never know. It is not like I can do a A/B testing to figure it out.
Only if there was some way of reading all my thoughts at the end of the day, it would be a good laugh I guess.
