Happy Friday Hivers!
Visiting museums is one of the things I always want to do whenever I am in a different place. It helps me learn about the place, culture, ways of living, and history. What I am going to share with you today is someone very talented from Bohol who is well-known for sculpture.
He was honored with the title of the father of modern Philippine sculpture and received the National Artist for Sculpture award in 1976. Undoubtedly, his works are very impressive. When I visited the Bohol National Museum, there was a room exclusively dedicated to Napoleon Abueva's creations. The beautiful sculptures he crafted were displayed there.
His works left me in awe, although I had already seen some of his works before, but I still felt that way. Most of his works displayed there were wood carvings. The one that really caught my attention was his depiction of rice planters. It was truly admirable how that piece of work was beautifully done.
Another piece of work that truly captured my attention was the sculpture of the mother and child. It was also meticulously carved. He is undoubtedly a great artist. I admire his dedication, focus, and imagination, which allowed him to create such an amazing piece of art.
If you are familiar with the Blood Compact Shrine, that was also created by Napoleon 'Billy' Veloso Abueva. It has now become a crucial landmark in Tagbilaran City and has become a well-known tourist attraction.
Every minute that I spent touring the museum was definitely not a waste of time because I was able to immerse myself in the great pieces of art. Although I'm not blessed with such talent, I have a fascination with looking at these pieces of art.
Thank you for reading and see you on my next blog. Cheers!
