At some point last month, Liverpool played the first leg of our EFL Cup game against Tottenham. We lost that game by a goal, but there was nothing much to worry about because we know we will have a chance to make a comeback in the second leg of the fixture.
Well, that night has come!
The long-awaited second leg of the fixture is tonight.
For the record, Arsenal found themselves in a similar situation when they lost the first leg of the fixture by 2 goals against Newcastle. They played the second leg last night, but got dominated again in a game that ended as a 2 - 0 win for Newcastle. The aggregate sums up to a 4 - 0 win in favor of Newcastle.
Well, tonight is all about Liverpool and they lined up a solid squad for the game.
First Half.
The first half started really well for Liverpool. They pressed really well, controlled the game, and did the necessary defensive work whenever the need arose. From the opening minutes of the game, you could see that Liverpool would be getting goals in just a matter of time.
Halfway through the first half, Liverpool got their first goal of the game through Cody Gakpo who has been in fine form this season. Cody's goal tally this season has been wild. That's the goal that leveled the aggregate scoreline for Liverpool in this game.
The rest of the first half ended without any additional goal for Liverpool. They still tried to control the game while Bradley was winning duels and winning tackles all-over the right hand side of the field. Bradley sure had a good game in this half of the game.
Second Half.
Liverpool started the second half with a solid attacking attempt. Nunez got on the end of that and won a penalty for Liverpool. Salah obviously stepped up and nailed the goal to put Liverpool ahead in aggregate.
Slot found a good time to do his substitutions as usual. He took off Nunez and Jones at a good time. Macca and Jota came on as replacement for those two.
Szobo scored the third goal of the game for Liverpool while Virgil got the 4th goal. The game ended with Liverpool having a Clean sheet in this game while the aggregate scoreline settles at 4 - 1 in favor of Liverpool.
This win means that Liverpool are already qualified for the final game of the tournament. That game would be a "winner takes it all fixture" against Newcastle United in Wembley Station.
Now, Liverpool will focus on our next fixture. Hehe.
