While our home is thought as a place of security, the mental imagery you describe is a place of helplessness and loneliness. Growing up seemed to have resolved some of that, as children everything seemed bigger and our lives directed by our elders and parents may give you or me a feeling of being alone, trapped and kept from experiencing the things you'd or I'd like to do.
And to your future kids or cousins you can't go wrong with them knowing that you characterize the qualities of affection and commitment. Take them out to do something fun.
