Splinterlands | Lorna Shine and the Order of Silver Shields

The Challenge

For this week's Splinterlands Share your Battle Challenge, Radiated Brute of the Fire Splinter is to be featured. As I don't have an epic battle using the said monster, I decided to to share the might of Lorna Shine paired with Silvershield Knight.

The Summoner

Card name: Lorna Shine
Edition: Dice
Rarity: Rare
Splinter: Life
Ability: Grants the Divine Shield ability to all friendly monsters
Lore Excerpt:
The White Plains of Khymeria boast an extremely mild climate that allows for some Khymians to live in the elements throughout the year. Lorna Shine is one such Khymian.

She wanders throughout the valley, visiting acquaintances and attending celebrations. Her skin is incredibly fair, no matter how much time she spends outdoors, and her red hair shines like a flame as she approaches from a distance at sunset. Lorna carries a huge sword on her back.

The Order of the Silver Shield

A Silvershield Knight belongs to the Order of the Silver Shield and they are capable of utilising lances, daggers, and crossbows.

The Lore: The Knights are the law enforcement arm of the Order of the Silver Shield. They are well-trained in horseback riding and skilled in the use of a vast array of weaponry. If enemies are not felled by the Knights’ lances, daggers and crossbows, they will be trampled by the footfalls of the steeds.

In this battle, the Silvershield Knight is joined by a number of unorthodox weapon-wielders.

League: Silver
Splinters allowed: All Splinters except Earth and Dragon
Rulesets: Equal Opportunity and Close Range
Mana Cap: 56
Deck: Life + Neutral
Battle Replay: Watch in Splinterlands

I've learned from experience that having a Monster with the Taunt ability works perfectly in Equal Opportunity ruleset. Life Splinter is one of my favorites and the Inspire + Sneak Attack is the build I most often use (and whose rentals are maxed out for the league I'm in), so I decided to deploy them with the Shieldbearer at the forefront.

Yo Yodin, My Worst Enemy

Yodin is a formidable opponent every time (been burned too many times, I hate him) and I would have been defeated easily if I didn't have Shieldbearer taunting the enemy's monsters. I intentionally placed Kralus after him as it is my secondary tank. It worked well as he was able to take the Blast damages due to its high HP, decent armor, and Healing ability.

Lorna Shine's Divine Shield was extremely helpful as it prevented the destruction of Shieldbearer's and Kralus's armor the first few attacks.

Interestingly, I had higher Speed than most of the enemy's monsters in spite of Yodin's +1 Speed buff. This allowed me to eliminate Cyclops from the successive attacks of the Silvershield Assassin, twice due to the Double Strike ability Silvershield Knight, and Kralus's magic damage. Without the Silvershield Knight's Inspire ability, it would have taken us longer to defeat it due to its Shield ability.

It's important to note that my deck's Sneak ability supersedes the Opportunity ruleset. This means that their damage are focused at the backmost monster, while those without this ability can target them, too, (when they have the lowest health that is) due to the said ruleset.

Goodbye Shieldbearer & Thorny Cornealus

Flamesmith's Shatter was perfect as this allowed the rest of the enemy monsters to hurt and eventually eliminate my primary tank.

Cornealus was problematic due to its high health and Thorns and Healing ability, not to mention its 4 ranged damage. Again, thanks to Lorna's Divine Shield ability, its Thorns didn't do any damage to Stitch Leech, Sand Worm, and Silvershield Assassin.

Without Shieldbearer's Taunt, however, this meant that they were able to take advantage of the Equal Opportunity ruleset. Molten Ash Golem and Ettin Spearman targeted my Stitch Leech, and eliminated it, and the Blast hurt my Sand Worm but luckily survived with 1 health.

Silvershield Tag Team

Silvershield Assassin was quick enough to eliminate Ettin Spearman but the Molten Ash Golem defeated my Sand Worm. Silvershield Assasin delivered the final blow to the Golem, hit Goblin Mech once, and then Silvershield Knight finishes it off.

Closing

This Inspire+Sneak build is one of the most frequent strategy I use in Silver (and even in Gold). Silvershield Knight for its Inspire, Shieldbearer for its Taunt, and Silvershield Assassin, Stitch Leech, Feral Spirit, and Sandworm for their Sneak are my essentials while I always use Lorna as my summoner. I rent Kralus primarily for the Noxious Fumes ruleset and is one of my favorites, too, when using Delywn Dragonscale Summoner.

Be wary of Mylor! He is usually the cause of my demise!
