A day in the Library

I've been in this institution since 2017 and I'm in my final year, but I've never for once made us of the school library, sounds weird, right? Well, that's because I prefer reading in my private space and most of the materials I might need can be found online.

So sometimes last week, a lecturer was in class and asked us where the shelf for electrical books is located in the Library. I thought I was the only one that never used Library but it happened that 90% of my coursemates don't know where the shelf is too. The Lecturer became furious and gave us a punishment and an assignment.

He asked us to form a note on the topic he was to take us that day with at least 3-solved examples. To ensure that we did the assignment, he asked us to see the Library attendant before Library and ask him to sign on the work before leaving. So we all had no choice than to visit the Library.

Two days later, I had a light schedule, so two of my friends and I went there to carry out the assignment. We got there around 12:31pm last Thursday. On getting there, we met three of our coursemates there already. We exchanged pleasantries and got to work.

My intention was to get the textbook, find the topic, take few pictures of the content and go home to write it out, so I planned to spend 30 mins at most. So I set to work, but contrary to my plan, what I thought would take me few minutes took me more minutes than I'd ever imagine.

The first problem came from locating the topic. All the textbooks I laid my hands on, said nothing or little about the topic "Electrical braking of motors by plugging". I searched and searched, I went to the mechanical shelf too, I got nothing. I was becoming frustrated as we were not allowed to use the internet.

After 45 minutes, my friend got something but we were told to do different works, so we couldn't copy, my search continued. After an hour and series of opening textbooks( I personally opened 19 textbooks), I finally got something too and I wasted no time in writing. I had spent enough time that going home to copy it will look like I was extending my work.

By the time we were done, half of the class had joined us too and the Library became noisy. The Library attendant came and warn us twice and threatened to send us out if we kept making noise.

I finished copying everything by 2:49pm. My friends had written something too, so we stood to leave. We signed out of the Library by 2:57pm after the attendant had signed on our paper. Proposed 30 mins became 2 hours, 27 mins, I was tired and hungry but I had no other thing to do in school, so I went home. My thoughts were with the attendant because he had messy tables to clean up, my table had about 40 books, same with my other coursemates. I bet he cleared the table with anger.

The experience was fun and I'd like to visit the Library again before I graduate. Except for us, the environment was quiet and calm. So we await submission on Tuesday.

Some of those lecturers are something else sha, he is getting furious because people hardly use the library that is filled with outdated materials, meanwhile I can get updated information online. I have only gone to my university's library only once and I didn't like it, it's just too quite for me and I prefer to read in a place with some ambient noise.

That's the exact problem. Filled with outdated materials. We are actually alike😁

It is weird as I was frequently in the library when I was at the university. However, good for you that you could avoid going there and you had everything you needed online.
