If I Were The Last Man On Earth

in #hive-133311last year

@ecency-star released a prompt today, asking us to talk about what we'd do if we were the last Human on Earth. It's a pretty interesting idea, and it's something I'm sure we've all wondered at some point in our lives.

What Would I Do?

You know, I'm actually not too sure. I thought it would be pretty interesting to travel throughout the world - most likely on foot, or by dinghy - to try and see all of the places I'd love to see. Although, in doing so, I'd probably end up getting attacked and killed by wild animals while on my travels.

I used to watch a show called, 1,000 Years After People. It was really interesting and would show a detailed rundown of what the world would be like without Human beings. Each episode would focus on a few different things to go into detail.

There was one episode centred around dogs, and how they would form packs very quickly, and become the biggest threat to just about every other creature within a very short space of time. So yeah, I'd most likely be killed by wild dogs within the first few weeks. Unless I tamed and trained a pack of my own, and became some sort of hound master, wandering a dilapidated Earth with all my four-legged friends.

Some Other Fun Activities

I'd probably travel around gathering all the cool things I've always wanted. However, most electronics would become useless after the first couple of weeks because there would be no one to work the powerplants. Unless I could figure out how to run one of them, although, by the time I could figure it out, it would most likely be too late.

Out of sheer boredom, I'd probably just blow some stuff up, and just mess around like that for a few months. Then I'd focus on hoarding up some food and water, just so if all else failed I would be safe.

I would also collect up some cool cars, and then start rallying them I guess.

By the end of it all, I'd probably carve out a brief history of Earth in large granite slabs, as a way to kind of detail our achievements as a species, and I'd end it by proclaiming myself as the ruler of Earth and the best king that ever lived. After that, I'd make some sort of tomb for myself.

There would be a bunch of things going on around the planet, like Nuclear Reactors melting down, and other stuff of that nature. So the world would be in a bad way very shortly after I became the final Human.

I Am Legend

One thing I'd probably do, to be a more realistic idea of what I'd do if this scenario were to happen to me is become something like the film I Am Legend.

I always thought that Will Smith's character in that film was a realistic portrayal of someone living a life knowing that they're the last man on Earth.

We're social creatures by nature, and we need to communicate or have some normal daily activities of some sort. So the idea is that he would set up mannequins around his local area, in shops he visits frequently where he can go in and have some small talk while collecting his bits and pieces.

I'd most likely do this too, as a way to keep some kind of normality in my life as I carried on. For example, in the film, there's a movie shop, and he'd go in and pick up one movie to watch, have his small talk, and then go home. He would do this rather than take every film from the shop to his house, just so he'd be going out and still live a life similar to what it was before.

I have never heard about that show and I want to watch it now :)

It is interesting to imagine being the only survivor on earth, in a scenario of loneliness like that the mind would lead us to create so many characters all to fill emotional voids, mannequins would be a good option, we could even have our own wilson ball like the one Tom Hanks had in the movie the castaway, it is certainly difficult to deal with loneliness, as for the options of exploring the world I share that fear of being torn apart by wild animals.

I used to watch that series you mentioned at the beginning and I really liked it. It presented the world as it would be without us. It makes you think a lot about the different possible scenarios.
