Cyber security is something I've found myself interested in of late especially due to the nature of my job. I recently finished a web migration due to a lot of web security breaches that had been going on due to negligence and improper management of the company database. When I started working for my company I discovered that their website was in shackles with one out of five websites barely standing. The past ICT personnels were obviously not doing a good job, and I wondered how in the world they managed to allow the website to be turned into a haven for hackers. It was so bad that different hackers had access to the company's mail and were using it to impersonate the company and further gain access to the clients database. It was like a virus spreading through the server which made migration the only sensible solution to the problem.
However, the day I first had issues with cyber security was when my hive account was hacked. I was still new to hive, and like every other person was just getting to the fun part of receiving back to back curation. I had saved about $20 for some school expenses and was waiting to sell when they reached $30. I woke up that day to a message from @merit.ahama asking if I know a particular hive user, my answer was obviously no, and then the follow up question of why I did a transaction with her. At this point I became confused and checked my account only to find all my HBD gone. Like totally gone. The pain I felt that instant was both physical, spiritual, mental, emotional, and not to talk about financial.
I immediately began to sweat profusely wondering what had gone wrong. The only person that ever had my keys was my onboarder who, according to her, also deleted it immediately she sent me. But then it turned out her account had been hacked as well and wiped clean of over $300 but she didn't notice because she hadn't been active. The worse was when almost everyone onboarded by the person who onboarded me that had good amount of hive and HBD were also hacked and mine was the latest. From the stats, the hacker had been on my onboarders account for over a month, and only started accessing the others a week to the day I discovered mine was hacked and a power down was initiated.
I started messaging everyone I could possibly message for help until I got to good-karma who was able to change my master password through my account recovery agent. I still remember that had it been @merit.ahama did not help me out, I would have probably said goodbye to my account as the others did. That period wasn't an easy one for me, that's why I called it 5 days of hell because that was what I went through. I couldn't eat, couldn't sleep until my account was fully restored. I know I already said thank you to @merit.ahama but for the purpose of this post I would like to say another thank you and a very big happy birthday to @merit.ahama yeah, today is her birthday… you all can help me wish her too in the comments section…
