The Great Teacher

The Holy Spirit plays an important role in the life of a believer, and this role cannot be underestimated. Jesus told his disciples that when the Holy Spirit comes, he will teach them the mysteries of God which they would not have understood if Jesus taught them. Sometimes we are taught a particular Bible verse as a kid, and we grow up with that Bible verse and begin to recite it, and it becomes a part of us. Most times we tend not to have a clear understanding of the verse.

I have always loved Philippians 4:19, where Apostle Paul said,

"But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus."

The above verse has always been about material things to me and, in some cases, interpreted to be financial supply by God.

A few days ago I was meditating on the aforementioned Bible verse, and the Holy Spirit ministered to me, saying, "Why do you always limit this verse to material needs?" At this point I was a bit confused, and I read the verse over and over again and even the precising verses. Then the Holy Spirit ministered to me, "That God will always supply a particular need I have depending on the circumstance."

My mind opened, and I began to write out the possible needs of a believer. And it was shocking to me that I had limited God's provision to only material needs.

I will share some of the needs God supplies us as believers in no particular order.

Firstly, as believers, we need refreshing, and it is only God that can restore our wearied souls. No wonder the palmist said in Palms 23 v. 3,

"He restoreth my soul; he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake,"

so when we need restoration we have to look up to God. And even when we need direction and guidance to live a righteous life, we still have to turn to God.

Secondly, protection is also a need of a believer, and we can only get this from God. The palmist said in Palms 91 vs. 11:

"For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways."

When you are faced with danger, know that God is your protector.

There are so many needs of a believer, which we will discuss in the next episode. Thank you for your time.
