so back in like early december i saw this post over on the DeSo blockchain where i create all my NFTs that there was this opportunity to have your nft get sent into space. i really didn't think i would be able to get chosen to be a part of this "mission", since i only just started making nfts in november- but i felt like i had a pretty strong idea that could ~maybe~ get me chosen.
basically i am a little bit of an astronomy nerd, i've read a lot of carl sagan books, ofc i've watched all of the original Cosmos TV series. i knew about things that humans had sent on previous NASA missions that were meant to be "introductions" of the human race to any potential extraterrestrials that could intercept the spacecraft. the ones i knew of offhand were the Pioneer Plaques.
so i sent pretty long messages to the people in charge, i had this idea that if nfts were going into space, there should be some sort of message that is sent with them as a "hello" from humans. i'll talk about all of the various ideas in a minute but i figure i should get to my nft submission first.

This KitClout is on a mission to space on February 15th, 2022 and that's no joke. Imagine if YOUR PFP went to space. She is made only for true adventurers. Sporting a one-of-a-kind spacesuit, she has taken to space, unsure of what dangers are lurking. While returning home to Earth, she performs a routine check, our blue and green planet looming in her background. A mysterious craft appears. As it approaches, it projects an image onto her helmet. The Pioneer Plaque. Have the aliens finally found us?"
so the idea with what's happening here is that the pioneer plaques were sent into space back in the late 1970s. this kitclout is hanging out in space, when a mysterious spacecraft approaches and displays the image back at her. so, an alien intercepted it and is now coming back and beaming it out to show that they received the message. ~spooky!~
so i had a few ideas, originally i just thought sending the actual pioneer plaque image would be cool on its own. partially because i thought my "silly nft series" might not make the cut if i tried to use it, but then i figured once i heard back that i definitely had a chance to get into the mission, i should actually try to make a unique nft and not just send up the pioneer plaque. initially i was also worried that the plaques might not be kosher to use in an nft, but because the plaques were created by NASA, they are 100% in the public domain and i should have realized it because you can find t-shirts and all sorts of things being sold featuring the images.
i have other ideas that i know would be cool but i'm not maybe the perfect person to create them, but like creating a version of the plaque that would attempt to explain blockchain technology using basic math/physics building blocks to explain to aliens much in the same way the pioneer plaque would show aliens how to reach Earth from wherever the plaque would be intercepted.

anyway i don't want to ramble on and on, i do have plans to create some more nfts to go on the mission, so i'd love to share them here once i complete them.

i'm sure you may have questions like "what exactly is sent" "how is it sent" etc. because those were my questions too. i can help you get the answers, some of it is a little technical and i don't want to give the wrong info here so that's why i'm not trying to do that right now. :)
i think it's super cool and i'm also super happy to be sending up something that has a piece of carl sagan's legacy, that was my whole intention! i'm really excited about it, worst case the whole thing is just a lot of fun, so in my opinion there's nothing to lose! (ﾉ◕ヮ◕)ﾉ*:･ﾟ✧
