frens, adidas has been leaning hard into its "journey into the metaverse". It first started with a collab with Bored Ape Yacht Club and a launch of NFTs in the adidas CONFIRMED app. If you were lucky enough to grab one of their NFTs, you're in for a treat!
adidas: Prada, Re-source
adidas is coming at us with another NFT collaboration. This time with artist Zach Lieberman and Prada for a "a first-of-its-kind NFT project featuring creator-owned art" as stated on the website. I guess that is just a fancy way of saying unique 1 of 1 art. That seems to be the trend with big name brands. Copy Crypto Punks' unique individual NFTs and make them look a little different. This time, it's a collection of 3,000 NFTs that are each tiles on a large canvas. This will be a giant art piece, though I think.
the project enables the community to contribute to a large scale artwork through play and discover the transformative benefits of web3, co-creation, digital ownership and NFTs.
What this will actually look like, I don't know. What I do know is that adidas knows how to hype things up and make them feel extremely exclusive and rare. This will probably mean high resale value of these tiles since they are actually very limited with just 3,000. How much they will actually be worth is to be determined by the secondary market as usual so you never really know what you have. That's the funny thing especially with NFTs... Sometimes you get one for free that's worth a lot of money down the road. Remember Crypto Punks were free to claim and claimers probably spent like $3 or less in gas back then. We won't know until the announcement tomorrow though. We do, however, get a pretty straight-forward plan to determine who is eligible. They even let you look at the snapshot for Originals Into the Metaverse NFT holders that will be getting whitelisted for this release. Me likes transparency, because we don't have enough of that with NFT projects or cryptos really.
Holy shit, this is what I like to see from serious projects. 3% of secondary market sales and an equal share of revenue from the auction of the final tile. 15% of the final auction profits will be split amongst all tile creators. Talk about gamified. Will it be ETH or their own new token? hmm....
All of this... Free mints with no gas fees. How they pullin this off though? They're using Ethereum's layer 2 solution Polygon, of course. All the security and network effect of Ethereum without the gas fees that kill you. Plus adidas is eating those fees, I guess. The way your tile is created seems a little odd. Is this just the government getting you to take a selfie? Maybe.
If only I hadn't missed minting the first NFT. Oh well, I guess I get to join the waitlist raffle like the rest of you plebs lol. Not financial advice of course. Good luck!
Thanks for reading! Much love.
