All these delicious Dim Sum just for ME! :)
Fortunately, there was only a short queue when I arrived. A waiting time of an hour or more is possible during peak periods.
They've renovated and expanded the place ever since the Covid lockdown.
A bilingual menu that makes it easy for me to order.
My favourite classic Dim Sum dish, Char Siew Bao.
Siew Mai with roe.
Fried Shrimp Wantons.
Har Gao, aka Crystal skin shrimp dumplings.
Har Cheong Fun, aka Rice Rolls wrapped over prawns.
Mango Pudding for dessert. :)
When in Hong Kong, one must definitely dine on their most famous dishes there, which is Dim Sum! Granted, Dim Sum isn’t any particular dish but an entire multitude of dishes under one roof. That said, there’s usually quite a few standard staples that most people will order whenever they decide to dine on Dim Sum.
This particular place I visited is a highly regarded Dim Sum restaurant which once won a Michelin Star in 2011-2012. It is one of my favourite Dim Sum haunts whenever I come to Hong Kong and is a must visit at least once per trip here. The name of the place? “One Dim Sum” (一點心). The English name doesn’t quite translate well, but in Chinese/Cantonese, it means “a piece of your heart”.
The menu here hasn’t changed much over the years. I’ve always liked that the menu comes in both Chinese and English with clearly denoted prices. As a tourist, I’m always very wary of a shop doesn’t display the prices of its goods properly. This makes ordering a breeze too as you can just point to the items if you aren’t fluent in the language.
I think I ordered a pretty standard typical array of dishes with nothing really “exotic”. Just some good ol’ classic dishes. You can’t go wrong with those. The only thing which didn’t come quite as what I expected were the “Fried Shrimp Wantons”. I haven’t been to Hong Kong in a while (since covid struck) and I completely forgot that they do it quite differently over here. That wasn’t a problem though. It was still delicious, just that it had more emphasis on the “fried skin” part rather than the “wonton”.
I was half wondering if I would be able to finish all the food or if I had to ask them to help me pack some food for me to bring back to the hotel. I must have been hungrier than I thought though since everything was gone before I realised it. I even had space to complete my meal with a nice Mango pudding for dessert.
I left with a very satisfied belly and my Dim Sum cravings satisfied — for the time being. Would I recommend “One Dim Sum”? Yes for sure. This place serves good quality food with very generous portions at very affordable prices. :)
