My encounter with a serial liar.

We are all liars, and it would be a lie if anyone claimed never to have lied before. It might be just the soft ones just to avoid punishment or get out of trouble, which many of us do regularly, but since it's harmless, I don't see it as a problem.

And there are the sophisticated ones, these are liars who have a PhD in lying; they cook up stories without a pinch of conscience, and when they present them, you won't have any reason to doubt them.

I do lie too, at least not to put anyone into problems, and it's always simple. Despite going easy with lies, I have a gift of detecting lies quickly, so whenever people lie to me, I always figure it out almost immediately. I am proud of this super ability of mine until I met a professional liar who should actually be lying to make a living.

Being a fresher, I was always on alert in school. I pay attention to everything around me and was cautious about making friends because of all the bad stories I have heard about friends misleading themselves in school.

After class, I always sat outside the department alone, either playing on my phone or revising what we studied in class. One afternoon, a guy approached me, and after introducing himself, I learned he was a senior in my department.

He was so calm and handsome, and even from the brief conversation we had, I figured out how intelligent he was. The conversation ended up with laughter and I wanted to chat more.

Segun became my buddy from that day, and we keep each other company at the same spot every day when there is no lecture. I made a few friends in class, but our connection wasn't that strong because Segun fills the gap always. We studied together, and he was very helpful to me more than I was to me. I started trusting Segun, and it wasn't long before he poured out his mind to me...

"The very first time he saw me sitting alone, he couldn't take his eyes off me. I captured his heart, and he couldn't resist coming close to me. bla bla bla."

I pretended not to understand, and Segun finally let the cat out of the bag.

"I love you, Bee, and it's my first time doing this. I have never asked a lady out in this school before, and you will be the first. Let's be together and you won't regret it."

I told him I was going to think about it, which was true, but Segun's claim not to have dated any girl in school kept interfering with my thoughts.

He is a decent guy, and moreover, I haven't seen him with any girl before, so why should I doubt him?

Segun stepped up his game with me, and I knew he was trying to win my heart. He introduced me to a few friends who didn't stop pleading that I consider Segun. I wanted to say yes, but something kept holding me back. I believed and trusted Segun already but was just scared about things going south between us after saying yes.

I made up my mind to wait a bit longer, and it happened that I went to get snacks somewhere close to my department, and the vendors asked of my boyfriend.

I was like, did I introduce anyone to you before? But it was all in my head because I didn't want to disrespect the woman.

"Segun is just my friend," I replied her.

"Better oooo because that boy too like girls," she replied.

I was surprised and just bottled up my thoughts immediately.

I kept wondering why she uttered such a statement because Segun doesn't look like a womanizer or flirt to me.
I decided to do my digging and stylishly made a female friend in Segun's class who ended up my best friend in school even after she graduated.

Oyin exposed Segun, and I didn't believe that was Segun's routine with freshmen. He gets close to them, and after winning their hearts, he have his way and dumps them
.
I didn't believe all the discoveries and just wondered why he would find pleasure in taking advantage of freshers. I didn't hint at him and just continued playing his game with him.

I ate Shawarma and drank ice cream for free several times. A year passed quickly, and Segun stopped asking me for a relationship.

I saw him jumping around another fresher and was happy I didn't become his victim. I caught him with this girl one day, and Segun said he had to date another girl because I turned him down. Our communication faded slowly, and I felt happy I didn't fall for him.

That's how freshers are often treated, not just in your school. People believe they are novice and don't know much, so they take advantage of them.

I knew it! I knew it while reading this that Segun was a playboy 😂. Most of these students in other levels see freshers as prey. It's left to the fresher to apply their God-given sense. That's for those that have though 😂
