Hi! It had been months since I had a painting commission, and to my surprise, someone messaged me to ask if the commission was still available. It is always a challenge for me and nerve-wracking, so I always give my very best to paint their fur babies. I always encounter most of the fur parents' reasons why they wanted their fur baby's painting that they had passed, and they wanted to give it to their families as a gift.
The pet kitten I am painting is a foster kitten who had passed and she wanted a portrait of her kitten. She only had baby photos not much so it was a challenge for me to paint it.
These are the materials I used:
- Watercolor Paper
- Mechanical Pencil 0.5
- Kneadable Eraser
- Regular Eraser
- Fine Line Pigment Pen
- Watercolor Paints
- 2 Bottle of Water
- Tissue Paper
- White Pen for Highlights
- Spray Bottle (to prep the watercolor paint)
The Process

The first thing I do is sketch the reference, and the most important thing is to erase the graphite from the paper using the Kneadable Eraser without fully erasing the sketch. The reason you need to knead it is to prevent the graphite from blending with the paint; otherwise, it will make your paint muddy.
I begin painting by applying light, applying that way is a good start, it looks basic but as you keep applying the layers it will gradually become vibrance.
After applying light paint, the next thing I do is use a pigment pen for the outline using pigment paint is important the black outline will not fade when you apply watercolor paint over it.
After I applied three layers of watercolor paint the portrait vibrancy was more visible.
When I was still learning watercolor, whenever I painted shadow I always used black shadow that was the one mistake I made.
The last thing I do Is to add highlights to the portrait using a white gel pen or you can use white acrylic or gouache.
I added a simple background I did it simple so the portrait would stand out more.
For the final touch, I sign the portrait this means the portrait is done, but sometimes it needs a little touch but it is fine LOL.

It is been a while since I painted again thank you to the person who commissioned me, my love for painting is alive again. Painting watercolor has always had a place inside my heart I can't and will never stop doing.
