It was 8 in the morning and Clara and Alex sat at a café near their apartment, and talked about coffee and tea. Clara ordered chamomile tea and Alex ordered black coffee.
"If you had to choose between tea and coffee, which one would you choose?" Alex asked Clara while sipping through his coffee.
"I prefer tea, as you may have noticed from my order. I think tea has diverse flavors and one can have many options. It also has antioxidants, it can battle free radicals, so it can decrease the risk of chronic diseases,” Clara replied, feeling satisfied with her decision.
"In fact, chamomile tea (The one I am drinking) can calm the nerves. So, it's the perfect option for someone who is on edge all the time, like myself because I have a high stress job,” Clara continued with a smile.
"What?!! You're a tea lover?! Who drinks tea these days! I think coffee is better because it makes you feel more alert and the aroma is mesmerizing, and you feel more alive. I like the feeling it has on my body when I drink it," Alex said, feeling full awake now that he had sipped his coffee.
"Also, I should add that coffee is also rich in antioxidants, so it has the benefits tea has," Alex continued.
Clara and Alex continued their debate, but they reached no specific conclusion.
"It's just a matter of preference and both beverages have their own advocates or enthusiasts I guess," Clara said and ended the debate.
"We better get going, otherwise we will be late for work," Clara said worried.
"See, I'm not in such a hurry, because I know I will have so much energy throughout this day and I will complete my tasks in time, even if arrive a little late to work. You tea lovers don't have that kind of energy," Alex said, so sure of himself.
"You want to bet on that, see who will accomplish their tasks sooner, if you win your next cup of coffee is on me," Clara said.
"And if you win, what do you want?" Alex asked curious.
"It's a surprise!" Clara said with a mischievous smile.
"Alright. Deal!" Alex stretched his hand to shake Clara's hand.
Clara and Alex raced to work, and they worked at the day having their bet in mind. Alex lagged behind because he had more work to do than Clara. Clara was a smart woman, she knew that Alex will take more time to finish his tasks. But, Alex was proud and did not want to admit he can't win the bet.
Clara, who finished her work sooner, went to Alex's office.
“I won! I finished all my tasks! Now you know tea lovers are energetic!" Clara said laughing.
"Alright, what do want?" Alex said exhausted from work. Even though he drank coffee, he needed more energy.
"I want you to quit coffee for a month and only drink chamomile tea-My favorite kind of tea- because I know you have so much stress," Clara said with a smile.
"Quit Coffee?!!! But I can't do that! Coffee is the reason I wake up in the morning!" Alex snapped.
"You have to. We had a deal, remember?" Clara said, reminding him of the bet.
"Why are you doing this?" Alex asked upset.
"Because you made fun of tea lovers! You have to respect us! You have to respect other people's preference! Just because you like coffee, doesn't mean everyone has to like it as well!" Clara said forcefully.
"Oh, now I get why you did this!" Alex said with a smile.
"Alright. Although it's hard but a deal is a deal. But, I promise you, I won't make fun of tea lovers again!" Alex said laughing.
