Greetings All
I had a little time to write a piece for you to enjoy today. I hope you enjoy it!
Having missed breakfast and now realising it was close to dinner time, Saita agreed to a sit down with the King of the Dekai and Queen Kay. She was curious as to the relationship between the two rulers but said nothing as they didn’t address her directly while they ate.
While Fell Dragon Kay seemed calmer, Saita could feel her watching and listening to what the rulers were talking about. However, at this point, they were only talking politics and Saita moved her attention to the food before her.
Just as she was starting to enjoy her meal, the Dekai turned to her and coldly asked, “How is it that a Champion and Dragon are one?”
Saita explained what she knew about the cage and the favour given up by Kay. The Dekai absorbed the information and sat back to think. Queen Kay continued to eat her food as if a species of the creature that destroyed her life wasn’t sitting next to her.
“I see. She is an aid then.”
“We already know that.” Said Saita without thinking.
The Dekai looked at her as if she had insulted him. Queen Kay lighting tapped her knife on the plate before her and muttered under her breath to the Dekai, “She was queen in her time too.”
“Ah! The manners explain a lot then.”
While still cold, the Dekai looked at her like she was something unpleasant he had stepped in.
“The Dragon is an aid and not truly a Dragon anymore. The Champion is both but neither. It is an interesting conundrum. Especially since it seems the aid can step in when needed.”
As soon as the words left the Dekai’s mouth Fell Dragon Kay’s mutterings fell silent and Saita just about choked on what she was trying to swallow.
“Excuse me!” she blurted.
Jethron looked her up and down before asking, “You have never had time slips? Periods where you can’t remember events? Catatonia even?”
Saita felt her entire body grow cold. She had never been perfectly stable, even as a child, but after the events leading up to the final battle with the Fell Dragon, there were times that were just missing. However, since it was only the missing time and nothing of importance that was blank from her mind, many people had brushed it off and so had she.
“I see. You have been unaware of it. I somehow think your friend and those around you knew and kept it from you. Your, shall we say, face-to-face encounter with the Dragon damaged more than just your body. It’s likely that during time of unrest of your mind, the Dragon came forth.”
Saita put her knife and fork down, not wanting to show the room that her hands were shaking. She almost expected Kay to be proud of the realisation but there was nothing but silence from the Fell Dragon.
The Dekai continued with his meal for a few minutes before he continued.
“Unless of course, you outed her to hide from things you couldn’t face.”
There was anger then, not her own, but from the one who shared her mind. She wanted to say something but knew that she was trapped and unable to be a voice in the conversation.
“Tell me, Saita, was it? How different is your past to the queen beside me?”
Queen Kay set her knife and fork down with a clatter and she glared at the Dekai, “I thought we agreed not to talk about that at the table.”
The Dekai blushed at being called out, then bowed his head and muttered an apology. He then looked to Saita and continued, “I only ask so I can ascertain what it is that makes someone hide in their mind while allowing a mindless beast to have control of their body.”
Pain erupted behind Saita’s only seeing eye and it felt like twin claws racked down the inside of her skull. She clutched at her eye with a grimace, and she heard a chuckle from the Dekai and then a chair scrape. Then a voice close to her ear said, “I wonder what it would take to see a Dragon released in this timeline.”
Her eye snapped open and turned to face the Dekai King. Now her own anger was bubbling in her chest. He had no idea what he had been saved from. She took a deep breath and returned the stare he gave her but with a smile on her face. It wasn’t the first time she had been accused of something similar.
“I don’t know, but keep pushing, eventually a limit will be reached.”
He chuckled and came to stand on her other side. He was inspecting her with great interest and Saita couldn’t help but wonder if this Jethron was trying to figure out if he could indeed release the Fell Dragon.
“Jethron, sit down.” Said Queen Kay in a low tone.
The Dekai’s head snapped to her, and though the look on his face was one of concern, he pressed the matter.
“You must be curious! A chained Dragon is something that hasn’t happened since it was first created. This is the perfect opportunity to complete our research to stop any Dragons from arising again.”
“There are no more Dragons.” Said Saita before she could stop herself.
Jethron snapped his head back to her and looked at her in confusion.
“There are always Dragons, that was our fault. Creating Champions to fight them ended up making more.”
“You misunderstand me. There are no more Champions, no Fledglings, and no Dragons except for me.”
Jethron swore at her in his native tongue, and she got to her feet.
“It is true. Kay hunted down every single one or had her packs do it for her. Apart from the Balance Dragons, anything the Dekai race created in terms of the Fell Dragon is gone.”
Jethron turned to Queen Kay, and she only shook her head.
“This is the last opportunity I have to learn from the greats of the past. Let me take her…”
“You assume a lot Jethron.” Said Kay. “Saita isn’t my prisoner, and I will not hand her over to you.”
“I will bring ruin to your planet if you don’t hand her over.”
Let me.
Oh dear. Saita is going to allow Dragon Kay to deal with this.
