Fledgling: Part 8

Greetings all

Today's update sets up two major plots in Fledgling. That being that part of Shareik's timeline has overlapped with the current timeline. Meaning, that he hasn't met Saita or knows who she is.

The second plot is a rogue group of Wolven that still exist that were originally part of Kay's pack.

Keep these two events in mind, because they will have consequences later.

“Interesting, we rarely see her nowadays.”

“Who?”

“The blonde-grey-haired woman. Ah! But that’s right, you’re new here, you won’t know about her current timeline yet. I probably should say nothing. You’re still in the early parts of your cycle, being the first and all that.”

“Hmm.”

“Come on, Shareik. I am sure you’ll learn more about her as you get comfortable with the way we do things now.”

Shareik, the first of the Heavenly, had managed to find a timeline he had not visited before. It was one of peace and many Heavenly, so many that he was confused where all of them had come from. He was sure that Matta had been the last of them to be born, but now, he wasn’t sure.

He had been brought here on a whim but now, now that he had seen this grey-haired woman, there was a sense of familiarity. He felt something that was not unknown to him. A power that had been the power for all other Heavenly, a power that they had helped the Kai hide away. A power that was now eating the universe. A Fell Dragon and it was free. He didn’t understand how or why the beast had been allowed to roam, but here it was.

“That is a Fell Dragon.” He muttered softly, as if naming the creature would summon it.

The other Heavenly laughed and shook his head as if Shareik had told him a joke.

“That’s not a Fell Dragon, that the Fell Dragon or she will be, she seems a little young. Don’t approach her, the last thing we need is to scare her away from her responsibilities.”

“Responsibilities?”

“You are early in your life, aren’t you?” the other Heavenly snorted. “Come, it’s best that you don’t interact with her. You two have too much history.”

Shareik frowned. If this was a free-roaming Fell Dragon, did he find a way to harness the beast? If so, he needed to know how and why. What made this one so special out of all the beasts he had had to enslave. Coming to this time, this universe, was destiny, and he needed answers.

Fledge was rusty. It had been some time since he had to help with balance, and he was still waking up. He hadn’t told anyone that his powers were still buried deep, and he would need a few days to awaken all of them. He didn’t want them to know. He was so sure that he could wrap this mission up and get back to sleep before he was fully awake.

He had asked Rubar to take his guests to one of the various rooms that allowed visitors, so he could prepare himself. It was more than physical preparation. There was a mental and emotional component to what he needed to do. In the past, he would spend time with those involved in the scenario where he needed to bring balance, asking questions until he had what he needed. However, with having to work with Saita, his emotions were already all over the place. He needed to centre himself first before he could ask her any questions.

He knew her history. It had been drilled into him. He knew her life, the past, the present, and what lay in store for her. Everything up until where he was now, he knew. Or at least that was what he thought he had known. He didn’t know that he would be the Fledgeling to help her find her family.

Knowing that he wouldn’t be able to centre himself more than he already was. He dressed as he always did: Ready to face anything that came his way. While not a fighter in any sense of the word, he was able to hold his own, while Rubar provided the crucial power. He was glad the Vulpine would be with him. He would understand. He was more of a brother than a friend.

Going through his centring breathing one more time, he stepped from his room and concentrated on where he needed to be.

A growl echoed in the darkness. This was a place of silence, and the growl broke it. He opened his burning eyes, upset that his slumber had been disturbed. He growled himself and tried to get to his feet. It had been some time because try as he might, he was unable to do so immediately upon waking.

He breathed out, then took a deep breath, absorbing the energy around him. There wasn’t much of a meal, but now that she was once more within the time corridors, there was food.

Unsteadily, he got to his feet and then pushed himself up onto his back legs with a groan. It had been some time since he was awake, it felt like it was over two centuries. He still remembered his orders.

“Go!”

He and his pack had fought hard. Harder than they ever had in their lives, but it had been for nothing. The Fell Dragon was gone, and in her place was something else. This thing isn’t interested in feeding them. It couldn’t connect with them, and so, many of them had died, starving, forgotten. However, she was back, their mistress was back, and the energies were moving once more.

He growled, waking the rest of the pack surrounding him. They had all come here. Starving, hoping for a way to free themselves, but somehow were unable to. They heard her within their minds and knew what they needed to do.

They needed the Fell Dragon to return in all her glory. Their mistress was to rise once more.

One by one, the pack got their feet. They would be hungry. He needed to feed them. He reached for the veil and found that he could grasp it. Now he just needed to find a place to feed.

He looked around. The pack was large. They would need a lot of energy. He knew just the place and time to get a snack. However, he needed to be careful. He couldn’t cross his mistress from before he went to sleep. No, he needed to be careful.

Red-Eye had been her companion, but he wasn’t the first companion to the Fell Dragons before. He was a pup. Not knowing his place, and the only reason he had weaseled his way in with the mistress, was because he had been the one to kill her as a champion.

The Wolven growled under his breath. Had he not been distracted by the Heavenly, he would have been in place to fight the Champion. Instead, he had returned only to find their master dead, and a mistress in his place with a new ruler to the Wolven.

The fury burning within his chest was too much to bear. No, he had to keep control. He needed to be in control, that was the only way to tame a Fell Dragon. The only way to ensure their pack could continue to live.

“Mistress, I come for you.” Came a thin voice.

And now the fun and begin.
