It has been a long week. I hope you all have had a good one. Don't forget to touch base with @zakludick's update as he is introducing new villains for us
Letulah mulled over what she had learned the night before. The group had spoken well into the early hours of the morning before Mary had decided that enough was enough. She had sent everyone to their rooms and escorted Letulah to her own.
Letulah had long been on the road and wasn’t used to many creature comforts. She couldn’t even remember the last time that she had slept in a feather-stuffed bed, much less one that didn’t have bed bugs.
She had tried to argue with Mary, but the queen had swiftly hugged her and told her to sleep on what she had learned. It had been a long time since someone had hugged her.
She lay on the bed as the night slowly started to fade into the morning. She was tired, but there was too much going on in her head.
Mortis, a revenant, the undead king of times past, and protector of the future queen Magna. Her brothers, Adrian and Adiran, both with darkened souls. Gorma, the giant greenskin, who actually was highly intelligent. Derric, the shapeshifting man, who seemed to also be a prince and betrothed to Magna.
The goddess Vitex, the protector of Letulah’s people, who insisted that they speak when the sun was high. Then there was Mary, she had changed so much but so little at the same time. Letulah hadn’t been sure that she would be welcomed back with open arms, but now knowing that it was likely Johnathan who had separated the two of them, it made more sense.
She had missed her friend but had understood that she was royalty and needed to play that role. She should have come back sooner. Especially after Johnathan died, but she had been mourning her own loss.
Letulah closed her eyes and thought to get some sleep. Then something heavy fell onto her chest. Years of things hunting her as a child, made her react with cat-like reflexes, and she threw herself from the bed.
“Still jumpy as always.” Came Mary’s voice.
Letulah looked around and realised that she must have drifted off. The sun was blazing in the sky. It was so rare for something to sneak up on her. Mary clearly never forgot where she came from.
“Don’t royalty sleep in?” she asked as she tried to flatten her unruly hair.
“It is nearly noon. I did sleep in, but Vitex was insistent on coming to talk to you and I need some answers too.”
Instead of the little girl from last night’s meeting, a stunning woman appeared behind Mary and gave a wave. Letulah couldn’t help but notice the dress was barely containing her chest. She grinned but didn’t divert her eyes.
“Goddess of more than one fertility, I assume.” She said sarcastically.
“Ha ha.” Said Vitex with equal sarcasm. “Come here.”
Before Letulah could get another word out, Vitex grabbed either side of her head and clamped on tightly. She knew there was no way to break free, so she didn’t even try.
“I think I know what is going on here. I see. Yes, that makes sense. No, I can’t break this, not without knowing the person…no, no, not a person. Not alive. A lich? Yes, a lich did this.”
“Vitex, you’re mumbling.” Said Mary.
“Oh yes. Sorry. Of course. Vitex removed her hands from Letulah. “I understand everything now.”
“Then spit it out.”
“She has a magical seal on her. One I am not allowed to break because she made a promise. As she was sealed in this magical barrier, she couldn’t receive my blessing. She is likely one of the few Clarpratians that still have the curse on them. Her’s is mild, which is why she can pass so easily as a human.”
“I am human!” snapped Letulah.
“My apologies, you humans and your worries about titles.” Vitex did a mock bow. “Either way. Until you complete the deal you have with this lich, the sooner the bond can break and the seal fades. Once that happens, I can fix you.”
“A lich? Really Letulah, you went and found a lich. There are many mages who could have helped.” Chastised Mary.
“I didn’t need help with the curse. My changes are hardly noticeable. Didn’t you notice how I scaled your castle wall with no equipment? I went to a lich for another reason. One I will not discuss with you.”
“Very well. I will respect your wishes. Lunch will start soon. Would you like to have a hot bath before?”
“Always so prime and proper, Mary. Yes, I would like to bathe before seeing everyone again.”
Mary clapped once and servants entered the room to direct Letulah to the bathing area. As she was led out of the room, she gripped Mary’s arm and said softly.
“I may not have liked your husband, but I am sorry you are left without him.”
“That’s the nicest thing you have ever had to say about him. Thank you.”
Mary let Letulah leave before returning to her throne room. From here, she directed the lunch to be taken to one of the many war rooms Johnathan had built. These rooms were well protected from all eyes and ears, they would come in handy now.
This time, Mary could make sure the Kai followers would join them, as well as Robert, Rex, and Millmor. The more rumours she could dispel, the more her old friend would trust her once more.
