Words are powerful and whatever comes out of the mouth can either make or break someone, so we need to be careful about the kind of words we say to our friends and strangers as well.
People are going through a lot these days and if we can't help them at least we should not make their life more miserable. We should try our best to spread love and happiness wherever we find ourselves.
The mental health crisis is on the rise daily, our world is on the verge of an explosion because we humans decided to be mean to each other, from cyberbullying to physical bullying and all manners of worrisome things we do to each other.
I will use a story about a friend of mine while I was still in college to explain better what seed good or bad words can sow in our lives.
A friend of mine was always covering his mouth whenever he talked with other people, at first I thought it was a cultural thing but it was not. I'd always ask him why he did that all the time and his response would always be he didn't want his saliva to touch others while talking.
Upon my constant asking, he opened up to me one day and said he fought with his younger brother one day and out of anger the younger brother said he has a mouth odour and that's why he doesn't have friends.
That word got to him so much because he believed that when people are angry they always tell the truth, so he didn't bother to ask around to be sure what his brother was saying was correct, he just believed it and lived most of his life with low self-esteem and avoiding conversations with people.
Even when he visited a dentist and it was confirmed he didn't have a mouth odour, it was difficult to erase what his brother said to him out of anger. He lived most of his life with low self-esteem and couldn't express himself properly in public.
What words have you said to people that they have dwelled on those words and it's difficult to erase and has affected most of their lives?
We all need to do better with our words, we should learn to walk away when we are angry or when we don't have any kind words to say.
I want to look back one day and be glad I had control over my words and not my emotions making me tear people down with my words. A better World is possible for you and me, we just need to learn to be kind to each other.
The power of life and death lies in your tongue, it's in your power to choose what you want to use your tongue for, to kill or to make alive. Choose one!
