A few days ago, while I was walking along Linea Street, an avenue that crosses the entire Vedado district of the capital, I came across a place that brought back many memories. Linea is an avenue that I like very much; around it there are large buildings, parks and different institutional centers. At one of the most central intersections, L Street, I spotted a small park that I used to visit a lot in my childhood.

Although it is small, it is very cozy, and what makes it striking and important is a monument in the center, where at certain times of the year tribute is paid to Chinese soldiers.

The Monument to the Chinese Soldiers, is a black obelisk, which is located in the Park located in the triangle formed by the streets L, Line and 15. This monument is a tribute to the Chinese who fought for the independence of Cuba. It was inaugurated in 1931, it rises on an octagonal base and presents a sober black column, surrounded by a small vegetation very well taken care of, that surrounds it, with small red flowers.

In its wide base it has two inscriptions, in the previous part it says, that the monument is in honor to the Chinese that fought for the independence of Cuba, in both languages, in the later one a phrase of Gonzalo de Quesada can be read that says: “There was not Cuban Chinese deserter There was not Cuban Chinese traitor”. This monument not only honors the memory of the Chinese combatants, but also highlights the bravery and sacrifice of those who, despite the adversities, joined the Cuban independence cause.

When I approached the small park, I noticed that it had been renovated. They had changed the ground, the benches and the lamps. I was very happy to see the change, although in my memories it looked different. The new look is nicer, although I missed the old trees. But according to what they explained to me, those trees impeded the visibility of the obelisk, which was covered by them and could hardly be distinguished, so they removed them and put a small vegetation that now gives it the appearance of an uncovered square, it seemed understandable to me.

I really liked the change of the benches, although one clings to the memories, I have to admit that it was right, in my childhood were benches for two people and gray, now is a long red wall half a meter high that sigsaguea around the center of the small park, the red color of these seats combine with the black color of the obelisk. I also found the lampposts very cool.

The obelisk is approximately 8 meters high and despite having many tall and striking buildings around it, since my childhood that corner was recognized as the corner of the Chinese park. That small black obelisk has served many as a landmark.

This monument is a sign of Cuba's rich history and the diversity of people who have contributed to its independence. The Chinese who arrived in Cuba in the 19th century, as workers, were deeply integrated into Cuban society. Many of them joined the independence struggles, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to freedom and justice.

The park and the monument are not only a place of historical memory, but also a place of rest and reflection, I was very happy to visit it with my son, he had never been there. This visit reminds me of the importance of preserving these places and keeping alive the history of our country, highlighting the solidarity of other countries.

Sort:

it looks like a pen, but it's really cool

If all black and slender, it has that similarity

I tell you, I have passed by there many times and I had not noticed that monument, although perhaps I don't recognise the park because it has been restored and changed.

I enjoyed learning about the history of this place. Thanks for sharing.

If the problem it had before was that it had many trees that did not allow the obelisk to be seen, now it is completely discovered.

Oh dear what an interesting story this obelisk has. I confess that I have passed by it a lot and I didn't know its history. I like to learn something every day and today I learned something new from you, thank you my dear friend @lileisabel 🌻💐🤗

I am very glad that my post has helped you learn something new, thanks for stopping by and reading friend 👋🏽❤️

Hello @lileisabel. Architecture is certainly one of the strongest metaphors to physically prove the political ties of 2 countries. And that couldn't be more evident in that outstanding black obelisk showing the Cuban-Chinese friendship. Interesting! ☺️

If it is very meaningful, solemn and beautiful, thank you for stopping by @archmoments 👋🏽

I never would have expected that 2 nations located on opposite ends of the world would foster a profound political connection. The Cuban-Chinese alliance symbolized in that imposing monument is a strong testament that race knows no bounds. Regardless of skin color, that architectural masterpiece has definitely united western and eastern cultures to serve a powerful cause. Greetings @lileisabel! ☺️

That's right friend, it is a place that unites two very distant nations with totally different cultures. I really like those cultural ties that cross borders

your notes are interesting. I learned that china and cuba have a pretty good relationship. The monument is small but it certainly has meaning.
Thank you for the great writing.

Thank you very much for appreciating, thank you for reading

Greetings friend, a great monument with a very interesting history that demonstrates the brotherhood of Cuba and China, it is preserved in good condition and the view is spectacular.

Happy Wednesday!

Thank you very much friend, it is a nice park with a sober monument that reflects all the solidarity between both nations.
