This sculpture is made up of over a thousand plants, painstakingly and meticulously sculpted into a killer whale with her cub. Like its real-life counterpart, the sculpture weighs a lot and requires some maintenance to keep the plants alive. It is located in downtown Victoria, British Columbia.
The whale's water spouts are actually plants. Very cool!
Among indigenous cultures, the orcas hold sacred and mythic significance as a symbol of protection, bonds, and guardianship. They believe the spirit of the wolf and the orcas is the same, thus they refer to killer whales as the Wolves of the Sea.
