Hi all ππ»
With my next post into the Architecture+Design Community I want to show you this unique peculiar bridge in the town San Pedro de Alcantara, Spain πͺπΈ
It is located in a large boulevard/ park that goes over a busy road the A7 ~ It was a very congested and dangerous road and crossing that used to go through the middle of the town, but in 2006 they started works to redesign this entire area and made a 2km long underpass. The area above the ground became later a large boulevard/ park. This whole project finished in December 2014.
The bridge I want to show you is in the park itself. The busy road is under the ground and you can not see in my photographs. It has made traveling so much nicer in that area.
On Google maps see the yellow star βοΈ for the centre of the area:
The highlighted yellow part is the entire park and consist out of an 55.000m2 large area.
A close up of the bridge Iβm talking about today. As you can see it goes over a roundabout which is the centre of it all.
I visited this unique bridge on 22 May 2022. Photographs are taken with my iPhone.
Let me tell you first a little bit more about this unique and quite peculiar bridge, before I show you my walk on and around it. π
More information: You can find in this website!
The bridge is 300 meter long and was designed by the architect Juan Antonio FernΓ‘ndez who named it βUn Mar de Sensacionesβ ~ βSea of Sensationsβ
The bridge goes over the large roundabout (which is the centre of the area on top of the underpass) and connects each side of the town San Pedro (as the locals call it). The beach side and the town itself I mean, where the townβs main centre is located.
Letβs start our walk. Are you already curious to my photographs?
I will follow the time stamps of my photos so you can walk it with me and get the sensation I got discovering this bridge π
As we came out of the town itself we walked towards the roundabout. And had these views of the bridge going over it.
Looking to the left.
Looking to the right.
As we walk towards the zebra crossing to cross the road to enter the park we see.
Crossed the road here looking left.
We decided to start on the right side of the bridge and walk over it, we are seeing here part of the park around us. It is nicely kept.
I saw an artistic photo opportunity π had to go along with it hahaha π€£
The bridge.
And a detail off it.
We are seeing the start of the bridge.
Next to us is the amphitheater located.
Letβs start now our walk over the bridge. π
We see the access via stairs and the walk up we will follow, so everybody can enjoy this bridge. It is not going up to steep so can be used by wheelchairs too.
A little further, I decided to photograph the couple in front of me to give you an idea of scale in the first photographs.
We see the centre roundabout beneath us.
Looking back.
Looking in front of us. Here we see the devision in the bridge, one side goes along normally but the other side π€© is like a WAVE π
Amazing to say the leastβ¦ π
Letβs have a closer look:
Walking past it slowly to show you the wave π in the bridge.
Reaching the end looking back:
We decided letβs go over the wavy part and feel the sensation of itβ¦
Itβs rather steep going up and down hahaha I so can imagine the fun children have going over this part π€©πππ»
Last part of it.
Looking back again.
Next to us we see the road that leads into the centre of the town. The one we came from in the beginning.
Letβs walk furtherβ¦ to the end of the bridge. We see the easy access on the left and stairs going down on the right.
Looking back.
We decided to take the stairs on this side to get if the bridge.
On the ground looking back.
We walk back to the park.
Some interesting sculptures. We see no sign with an description. As we havenβt seen anywhere in this town from artworks, sculptures etc. itβs a shame that the town doesnβt share that info.
Walking backβ¦
Some pigeons enjoying the sun.
Letβs have a closer look at itβs construction:
We see here clearly all itβs connections still visible. I like that.
And to finish I look towards the town again and see a large welcome sign. With the bridge depicted on it. I know the town is proud of it and the residents as well all the visitors are enjoying this park to the fullest.
Hope you enjoyed my photos of this unique bridge in San Pedro, Spain from not that long ago as much as I did. Thank you for looking and reading π ππ» Bye bye for nowβ¦ until the next time!
Any questions or comments, let me know. Always happy to help.
Have a great day all π
