It was a long time ago when Tarsa was running a dojo to train melee units and Immortalis taught magic skills to newly recruited monsters. They were not on good terms and always had some quarrels between them, there had been bloody occurrences when their students met at one place in Praetoria.
There was an event called Path of Gallantry in Praetoria and organizers had invited leaders of all dojos and arenas to showcase their talent in the event, Tarsa and Immortalis brought their young recruits. It was the finale for the best team to survive a real battle and their teams were in the finals looking forward to winning the competition trophy.
Back to Basics
This is a very cruel ruleset, when it is effective in a battle, it strips off all monsters of their abilities. All monsters lose their abilities, but they can still use abilities provided by summoners or other rulesets.
Additional Rulesets: Fire and Regret
This ruleset blesses all units with Return Fire ability. When a monster with Return is hit by a ranged attack, it returns some of the damage to the attacker, the damage is rounded to the nearest whole number.
BATTLE LINEUP
A low mana battle is always hard to fill with suitable units that can do nice damage each round. But, I tried to fill in some high-health and high-speed units in this battle.

STRATEGY
I predicted that my opponent would use magic units because of "Return Fire" and "Back to Basics" rulesets. Therefore, I had to use a tank that could stand for a longer period in the battle while backline units destroyed enemy units one by one.
- Immortalis was used to take 1 less damage from magic attacks, and he could also provide Shatter ability to all friendly units.
- Lurking Puffer was used to take damage and survive at least 3 or 4 rounds, this helped magic units to destroy their melee units without taking any damage.
Summoner and Monsters in Action
Immortalis is a legendary Earth summoner who possesses Void and Shatter abilities, his units can take 1 less damage in the battle and they can also remove armor with their attacks using Shatter ability. Immortalis also reduces the health of all enemy units by 1 point.
Lurking Puffer is a common Earth unit, its Corrosive Ward ability eats up 2 armor each time a melee unit attacks it.
Regal Peryton is a rare Earth unit, he has nice health and speed, but he cannot use his Flying ability in this battle.
Goblin Sorcerer is placed as the last unit due to its low health, normally he attacks the last monster using his Sneak Attack ability, but in this battle, he can only do magic damage.

BATTLE COMMENTARY
Immortalis stands in a corner holding his magical staff, he lifts his staff in the air and sends a magical wave toward his recruits, they are now blessed with Void and Shatter abilities.
Tarsa imbues her students' weapons with fire magic, now they have extra attack points and then she enhances their health, but Immortalis negates it with his lightning magic called Zapper.
Round 1
Lurking Puffer sprouts from the ground and turns into a giant mushroom ball with lots of gas oozing mouths. Reagal Peryton starts the battle and shocks Radiated Scorcher with a spiky feather.
"Hey Peryton, the odds of winning look low, but we should try to kill melee units first.'" murmurs Goblin Sorcerer in a skeptical mood, then he flexes his fingers and hurls a magic ball toward Radiated Scocher and ends his miserable life.
Round 2
Djinn Apprentice readies a fireball for Lurking Puffer, he snaps his fingers and the fireball engulfs Puffer and turns it into ashes.
"Focus on Antoid Platoon, if he dies, we'll sure win this competition." says Regal Peryton with a cautious attitude and "Don't worry Sorcerer, I can't fly but I can sure use my evasion skills."
Peryton successfully dodges a life-threatening blow from Antoid Platoon, which could change the course of the battle.
Round 3
Antoid Platoon looks at Peryton with anger and yells "Our kin will find you and snatch your flesh bit by bit, I send them a signal to track you down."
"Oh! For that, you must have to be alive and I ensure you all die in this competition." replies Peryton and throws a volley of bristles killing all the ants in the platoon.
Rounds 4 & 5
Scavo Chemists is facing Regal Peryton, and the fear is swimming in his eyes, he looks cute, but he must be downed to get to the final character.
Both Peryton and Sorcerer wound Scavo Chemist first, and as he begs for his life, they dispatch him out of the ring lifeless.
Rounds 6 to 8
"Welcome, welcome to the death bed, you hid behind your goons, but we know how to eject a mouse from his burrow." says Goblin Sorcerer with a sarcastic smile.
After making Djinn weak and drowsy with their attacks, Regal Peryton enlarges his antlers and lifts him in the air, and with a little shake, he drops to the ground. Djinn Apprentice loses a lot of blood and gives up his life as a defeated recruit.
"Bravo! Well done my skilled students, you make me proud and now I feel relieved that my students are very talented." claps Immortalis and heads toward the stage to collect the trophy.
STRATEGY OUTCOME ANALYSIS
This strategy required 3 things, 1) High health, 2) Speed, and 3) Protection Buffs. I used all 3 elements to seal the victory in this battle. Fighting without abilities is very challenging as the player is dealing with pure damage pouring on the unit first in line.
If you noticed in the beginning when Antoid Platoon tried to attack Regal Peryton, it evaded that attack, it was the moment when my opponent had lost this battle already. So, Speed makes a big difference in "Back to Basics" ruleset as it helps take initiative in the battle and also increases dodge chances.
It was an interesting battle and taught us new things about the battling system, all we need to look at the flaws and fill them in future battles.
