Be the CEO of your own Spacefaring Company!
You already probably know that I'm addicted to Browser Games.
And, indeed, I am.
For the last few weeks, I've been dabbling into Prosperous Universe. It is a browser-based science fiction game in which you're the CEO of your own Spacefaring Company. Each and every player occupies a place in the universe, colonizing planets, transporting goods around, manufacturing stuff from other stuff, and so on.
It's like EVE Online, but without graphics and combat. The world is persistent and dynamic, with players able to impact the game world as a whole.
Players can also collaborate with each other with corporations, and even engage in political warfare through diplomacy, as each Planet has an elected Governor that can set taxes, bonuses and rules for that specific planet.
As I said, the game focus is Economics, and I'm loving it. All resources are player-made, from the most basic raw materials like Water and Carbon to the most complex buildings like Planetary Administrative Centers. Everything is built by players through an incredibly complex and deep crafting system: there are several dozens of different manufacturing buildings, each one using different workers (like basic Pioneers that are happy just with food and water, and fancy Scientists that demands dozens of different consumer goods like High-Quality Meat Meals and Neurostimulants to stay working for you).
The more advanced things you want to build, the more complex the supply chain becomes. To manufacture an AutoDOC (an equipment needed to build hospitals), it is needed EIGHT layers of supplies, as each of the needed components also needs other components and so on. You need Water to farm Grain, and then burning the Grain gives you Carbon, which is needed to refine Gold, which is needed to make Gold Alloys, which is needed to manufacture Circuit Boards, which are needed to make Sensor Arrays, which are needed to build Body Scanners, which are needed to finally make the AutoDOC Stations! Oof!
As a new player myself, I'm just staying on the easy side of stuff. I've built two different kinds of raw material Tier0 production lines (Farms and Rigs), another two basic manufacturing Tier1 that just need inputs from farms and rigs (Food Processor and Weaving Plant), and just one Tier2 manufacturing that needs input from the Tier1 (Basic Materials Plant).
There's still A LOT to do!
Overall, Prosperous Universe is an ambitious and unique MMO that offers a deep and immersive experience. The game has been in development for the last few years and is still in Alpha. I'm enjoying the whole experience, especially considering that it's a browser game with all the limitations associated to it.
