The Magic of Walking at the rice fields and the greens

A WALK.png

Hello everyone! I am excited to participate in this week's Asean Hive Challenge, which is a great motivator to get up and move! It's so important to avoid a sedentary lifestyle, and this challenge encourages me to do just that- get out, walk for 10-15 minutes, and connect with my neighbors. This afternoon, I took a stroll around my neighborhood, I noticed how many of my neighbors have beautiful flower gardens, and the rice plants are coming along nicely. All the greenery is so refreshing and lovely to look at. I definitely need to make this a more regular habit- it's a great way to give my eyes a break from the screens.

On my walk, I ran into a neighbor who was carefully minding her cow. She kept a close eye on it, holding the rope tightly to prevent it from straying into the nearby rice paddies. This walk also gave me a chance to appreciate the variety of plants growing along the path. I'd never really noticed them before since I usually travel by motorcycle and only leave the house at night. Our house sits nestled in the middle of the rice fields, about 300 steps from the highway (a much shorter distance trip by motorcycle). Interestingly, I only encountered one person on my walk. I wonder where everyone else was, probably at work or at home resting.

There's a certain magic to walking harmoniously and escaping the busy online world for a while. You immerse yourself in the vibrant neighborhood and nature. Recently, I rediscovered that a simple walk down a quiet neighborhood is a little treat to myself. As I ventured down the small street, I noticed we had many greens here. It was a perfect afternoon.

This path leads to the small pond where they farm Catfish (Hito). They feed them either sinking pellets or raw chicken meat. The pond is 6 feet deep and surrounded by a net so that the fish can be easily caught.

So many potted cactuses. Below, these reddish-pink curves are elegantly so vibrant that they overshadow the green plants.

I never noticed that our neighbor dug a deep well as their main water source for washing, laundry, and other chores.

Think about it: When was the last time you noticed your surroundings? Another question: When was the last time you took a moment to appreciate the beauty of a blooming flower, the sound of birds singing, or the sun's touch on your skin? I appreciate it now. The pleasure of walking forces me to slow down and be present in the moment. I simply admire the beauty of nature, and this is a chance for me to reflect and let go of my worries and anxieties.

Thank you so much Asean Hive, for this opportunity a chance to reflect and an antidote amidst the chaos.

Ciao! XoXo
