Self Growth & Discovery (90 Day Challenge) Week 6

I hit plateau

or maybe I didn’t.

The highlight of this week is that I managed to lose 8 pounds and kept it off. I was hoping when I made this update right here Self Growth & Discovery (90 Day Challenge) Week 5, I would lost another 2 pounds. Unfortunately, that week was pretty catastrophic and I ended up not losing any weight due to my poor eating habit. Who could survive with just iced coffee? (it’s me) but you know, you can’t have them way too much otherwise it messes the way you eat and I proved it right.

A glimpse of what I ate in the week

Just as you see above, a huge Vietnamese iced coffee with eggs. Then, some other snacks, cakes, and iced desserts that also was the highlight of what I ate throughout the week. The food that I had wasn’t necessarily typical of my previous weeks. They were full of sweets and sugar laced. When I am a little sane, this is the meal that I have, a 100 gr of tempe, 150g of chicken, and 2 scrambled eggs with curly lettuce to make Ssam the korean way of eating wrapped meat.

My fitness pal's weekly digest mentioned that I ate 9541 calories for the entire week while only burning 806 through exercises which were mainly cardio. However, one big change that I add into my routine is daily plank and upper body strength training for 100 reps each. It is brutal and I don’t recommend it if you’re only starting out.

New Habit this week...

With my other habits such as reading, 2lt water daily, studying have become a little more autonomous. So, I feel like it’s good but at the same time, I need to add something new, a habit that could improve my life further.

That is.. no youtube/screen during meals.

The thing is, whenever I eat, I always put in youtube/ screen time while enjoying my food. I would eat in front of my laptop rather than in the dining room. It made my meal time that was supposed to only be 30 to an hour stretched into endless hours of youtube scrolling and consuming information that I might not need. When I don’t do that, I become a lot more efficient and would only consume youtube when I am about to sleep or when everything else is finished. So, it’s going to be a challenge to eat without a screen as my mind wanders A LOT.

current with additional new habit

My personal blog is also all over the place but I’ve been enjoying commenting more

I suppose with my newly found confidence and all that jazz, I enjoyed commenting more. It’s such a strange concept but I certainly don’t want to just be on the sidelines and passively consuming. I find enjoyment in learning something new and interacting again. Also, thank you to everyone who posts over Hive book club lately. It is awesome to see the place thrive one more time and revive from its long hiatus and break.

This week the goal is to get back on what I normally do at the current pace. Book review every Monday and everything else in between. Sunday is for reset content and reflection time, and the rest throughout the week is either movies, tech or whatever fancies me including coffee. I might start talking about gardening updates again because now, my chili is growing and I have one unidentified plant growing tall in one of my pots.

There are still about 4-5 weeks to finish this challenge but I’ve been loving it so far. Here’s what I mostly gained in short sentences:

  • I read more books.
  • I lost weight
  • I eat better
  • I workout
  • I have way more confidence that I ever could
  • I feel healthier too.

While some weeks feel longer, I am sure by the end of this challenge, I could do something more and even build better habits that could help me improve my life. This time, not just about talking it out but actually doing it. That whatever challenges thrown my way, I could overcome it.

It's challenging not to watch anything during meal time!!! But you can cut me some slack now, I'm in isolation for my RAI therapy and I can't help but feel so lonely especially during meal time. I watch either youtube or movie to have a company at least.

I hope the therapy works successfully and I get how eating without anything can feel lonely at times so you definitely need that and cut yourself some slack. For me though, it's one of the things I need to improve on since my brain is overloaded with too much information and it's better for me to get lesser screen time.

Once again, good luck and I hope the therapy works for you 😊

It's normal to have ups and downs, I think :) So don't be too hard on yourself!

Eggs have been great for me. I spent much of last year on a carnivore diet (so mostly eggs and meat in various configurations). Great for my health and weight. Now starting to incorporate more fruit and veg as well as some carbs (not too happy about that, but one day at a time). You gotta have patience. You're doing great overall! 8 pounds (and even 2) is nothing to sneeze at.

I am also learning into more carnivore diet, mostly egg and chicken these days. I also have carbs from fruits, vegs and rice especially when I am lazy cooking and my mom has a lot of control over it. 😂(not too happy either sometimes). This past 6 weeks have been a transformative journey for me. I typically don't have this much patience and go for all in or nothing but I've been through some difficult times and feel like I had enough. While I am happy with 8 pounds I could do better hehe.

PS: It seems like you had fun during hivefest and it was such a great read to experience it from your posts.

It does seem like it's working out for you :) I don't have patience either. Like, I'll go and buy the healthy whatever products that I'm into then a week later, I've forgotten about it. I do think we stick to what makes us feel good though. I'm glad you found something that works for you :)
Carnivore was great for me. Tried it for some hormonal problems and it seemed to help with those, but gradually I lost my strictness with it I guess. I'm still undecided whether it's a good reset diet (like to do a strict diet of this sort for a short time to reset your body) or as long-term. Who knows where time will take us both :)

And yes, thank you. I really did. It was a great opportunity to step out of my shell a bit. So I was thankful for that. :) I'm glad some of that carried through my writing.

Congratulations on your weight loss journey 👏
It's really challenging to start a new habit and you're doing amazing.
I started going to the gym too, and I can say it has boosted my confidence from 10 to 50%
I wish you all the best in achieving your goals

I started going to the gym too, and I can say it has boosted my confidence from 10 to 50%

way to go girl! it isn't easy to start going to the gym and the anxiety that comes with it. Are you on a journey to bulk/weight loss or some other?

It isn't easy to start going to the gym and the anxiety that comes with it

Yes! I can relate 100%.
I'm not on a weight loss journey, I just want to grow my body to be firm😅
I always had body pain so that was one of the reasons I started going to the gym, and it has helped a lot with that

ooh that's a great goal! I did that with swimming to help me ease the pain since I often sleep in a bad position 😅

I can't swim, so that's on my bucket list 😅,hope I achieve that too

Wow, you are so productive and disciplined in doing your daily routines. I think you are already developing consistency as I can feel it from reading your post. You also inspire me to be better in life :D

Thank you for this inspiration ❣️

This is what 6 weeks taught me, to be discipline despite any challenges thrown my way. By now, it's all simply habit that I managed to do and feels like a breeze doing them. I feel honored that you say that. Also, if you feel like doing any new habit/challenges & when it comes to self development, give it 90 days, you'll do amazing just in 6 weeks too.

All the best in your weight loss journey 😊 have you tried switching your coffee to purely brewed coffee? This, cumulatively and over time, might save you so calories. 😊

I always do purely brewed coffee. I drink like 3-4 cups of them in a day haha and last week was the time when I craved sugary coffee. So, that's why I ordered them and that didn't go well.
