Muchas veces la gente toma un libro, intenta leerlo y fracasa en el intento, algunos dicen que no les gusta leer tan solo porque no comprenden lo que han leído hasta el momento, ignoran que saber leer va mucho más allá que simplemente decodificar letras, se trata de conocer a profundidad lo que estás leyendo, y a esto es a lo que llamamos Comprensión Lectora, pero ¿cómo puedo mejorar mi comprensión lectora y lograr así que me interese cada vez más por leer? Pues en este post voy a compartir contigo algunos tips que a mi me sirvieron de mucho y espero que también a ti 😊.
Many times people pick up a book, try to read it and fail in the attempt, some say they do not like reading just because they do not understand what they have read so far, they ignore that knowing how to read goes far beyond simply decoding letters, it is about knowing in depth what you are reading, and this is what we call Reading Comprehension, but how can I improve my reading comprehension and thus make me more and more interested in reading? Well, in this post I'm going to share with you some tips that helped me a lot and I hope they will help you too 😊.
En primer lugar es necesario que sepas que existen cinco tipos de comprensión lectora, es algo que aprendí en clases de literatura cuando estaba en la secundaria y de verdad me sorprendió mucho esta información porque siempre creí que la comprensión lectora se trataba de simplemente entender lo que lees y punto, pero no es así.
First of all, you need to know that there are five types of reading comprehension. This is something I learnt in literature classes when I was in secondary school and I was really surprised by this information because I always thought that reading comprehension was about simply understanding what you read and that's it, but that's not the case.
1) Comprensión literal
1) Literal comprehension
Es cuando el lector logra identificar ideas explícitas en el texto y obviamente esto es lo más sencillo, por ejemplo, si lees lo siguiente: "María contempló la foto de su amado con nostalgia, pero al mismo tiempo con alegría porque sabía que dentro de poco volverían a verse" la comprensión literal, como su nombre te indica, tan solo te indicará que una joven está observando una foto de alguien importante para ella.
This is when the reader is able to identify explicit ideas in the text and obviously this is the easiest, for example, if you read the following: "Mary looked at the photo of her beloved with nostalgia, but at the same time with joy because she knew that soon they would see each other again" the literal understanding, as the name suggests, will only indicate that a young woman is looking at a photo of someone important to her.
2) Comprensión inferencial
2) Inferential comprehension
Esta por el contrario es una comprensión más profunda porque se trata de una interpretación personal que el lector hace acerca de lo que ha leído, pero que no aparece de forma explícita en el texto, es cuando empiezan a surgir hipótesis e ideas. Les daré el mismo ejemplo del texto anterior "María contempló la foto de su amado con nostalgia, pero al mismo tiempo con alegría porque sabía que dentro de poco volverían a verse" En este sentido el lector podría intuir que hubo una razón por la cual María y su amado están separados, que hubo un conflicto... quizá.. ¿otra persona, una mentira, alguna trampa? pero también puede deducir que sea lo que haya sido lo que alejó a la pareja, ya no representa un problema.
This, on the other hand, is a deeper understanding because it is a personal interpretation that the reader makes about what he/she has read, but which does not appear explicitly in the text, and this is when hypotheses and ideas begin to emerge. I will give you the same example of the previous text "Maria contemplated the photo of her beloved with nostalgia, but at the same time with joy because she knew that soon they would see each other again" In this sense the reader could intuit that there was a reason why Mary and her beloved are separated, that there was a conflict... maybe... another person, a lie, a trap? but he/she can also deduce that whatever it was that drove the couple apart, it no longer represents a problem.
3) Comprensión Apreciativa
3) Appreciative comprehension
En este caso el lector involucra sus propias emociones en la comprensión del texto, es capaz de llorar, reír o enojarse debido a lo que está leyendo.
In this case the reader involves his or her own emotions in the understanding of the text, is able to cry, laugh or get angry because of what he or she is reading.
4) Comprensión Crítica
4) Critical Comprehension
En este tipo de comprensión, el lector es capaz de emitir sus propios juicios y opiniones respecto a lo que está leyendo, pero al mismo tiempo debe tener bases y argumentos que sustenten sus opiniones, por ejemplo cuando alguien lee Harry Potter con detenimiento puede surgir la siguiente opinión: "Creo que Snape nunca pudo superar la muerte de Lily porque sentía culpa por haberla entregado indirectamente a Voldemort, la prueba de ello es que aunque no soportaba a Harry por ser tan parecido a su padre, aún así lo protegía"
In this type of understanding, the reader is able to make their own judgements and opinions about what they are reading, but at the same time they must have grounds and arguments to support their opinions, for example when someone reads Harry Potter carefully the following opinion may emerge: "I think Snape could never get over Lily's death because he felt guilt for having indirectly given her to Voldemort, the proof of this is that although he could not stand Harry because he was so like his father, he still protected him".

Esta es sin lugar a dudas mi favorita y es la que más pongo en práctica, porque es cuando se activa la imaginación y creatividad del lector, hasta el punto en el que puede hacer su propio final alternativo de la historia o incluso una historia paralela partiendo de la que leyó, de esta forma fue como nació el mundo del fanfiction (si no sabes de qué se trata te dejaré un video que preparé hace tiempo en mi canal)
This is undoubtedly my favourite and is the one I put into practice the most, because it is when the reader's imagination and creativity is activated, to the point where they can make their own alternative ending to the story or even a parallel story based on the one they read, this is how the world of fanfiction was born (if you do not know what it is I will leave you a video I prepared some time ago on my channel).
Muy bien, una vez que ya sabemos qué es la comprensión lectora y los diferentes tipos que existen, ahora sí creo que llegó el momento de compartir con ustedes cuales fueron los métodos que yo utilicé y los cuales me sirvieron bastante.
Okay, now that we know what reading comprehension is and the different types that exist, I think it is time to share with you the methods that I used and which were very useful for me.
1) Hacer preguntas sobre el texto
1) Ask questions about the text
Creo que este método funciona mejor si estás leyendo junto a alguien, esa otra persona podría hacerte preguntas acerca del texto que acabas de leer, pero tú mismo también puedes hacerte algunas preguntas que te ayudarán a comprobar si realmente has comprendido la idea que el autor quiso transmitir en su texto, también te ayudará a saber cuanta información has retenido.
I think this method works best if you are reading together with someone else, that other person might ask you questions about the text you have just read, but you can also ask yourself some questions that will help you to check if you have really understood the idea that the author wanted to convey in his/her text, it will also help you to know how much information you have retained.
2) Extrae las ideas Principales
2) Extract the main ideas
La mayoría de los textos constan de un 30% de información realmente importante, mientras que el otro 70% solo es relleno, si solo te concentras en aquello de mayor relevancia, lo que causa mayor impacto, esto te ayudará a tener una mayor comprensión general del libro.
Most texts consist of 30% of really important information, while the other 70% is just filler. If you only concentrate on what is most relevant, what makes the most impact, this will help you to have a better overall understanding of the book.
3) Revisa la estructura del libro que quieres leer

No todos las ediciones de los libros se adaptan a tus necesidades o gustos y esto dependerá obviamente también de tu edad, cultura y preferencias, cada libro es como una persona, tiene su propio esquema que el autor o la editorial diseñó para organizarlo, por eso creo que es conveniente primero identificar como está estructurado el libro que deseas leer, revisar si está dividido por capítulos, si los capítulos tienen nombres o solo están identificados por números, si tiene subtítulos, alguna conclusión, un índice, fotos o ilustraciones, también el tipo de letra, si es grande o pequeña, de esta forma descubrirás si en efecto se adapta a tus necesidades, porque de ser así te sentirás más cómodo a la hora de leer, ya que te sentirás más identificado con el nuevo libro.

4) Tomar notas de palabras que no comprendas

Esto no solo te ayudará a comprender mejor lo que estás leyendo, sino a expandir tu vocabulario y aprender cosas nuevas, es normal que nos encontremos con palabras "extrañas" que aún estando en nuestro propio idioma no logramos entender y esto puede entorpecer toda la lectura, puede hacer incluso que se vuelva tediosa y perdamos el interés en continuar, pero si tomamos notas de ellas y buscamos su significado en algún diccionario entonces habremos cambiado la situación para bien.
This will not only help you to understand better what you are reading, but also to expand your vocabulary and learn new things, it is normal that we come across "strange" words that even in our own language we do not understand and this can hinder the whole reading, it can even make it become tedious and we lose interest in continuing, but if we take notes of them and look up their meaning in a dictionary then we will have changed the situation for the better.
5) Has un resumen de todo lo que has leído

Luego de leer el cada capítulo siempre es bueno que hagas un resumen de todo lo que leíste, qué te impactó más, hacia donde condujeron los hechos a los personajes, porqué sucedió determinada situación, esto te ayudará a mantener la atención en la trama y evidentemente a incrementar tu nivel de comprensión lectora.
After reading each chapter it is always good to make a summary of everything you read, what struck you the most, where the events led the characters, why a certain situation happened, this will help you to keep your attention on the plot and obviously increase your reading comprehension level.
Y bien, amigos estos son los cinco tips que a mi nunca me han fallado a la hora de comenzar a leer un nuevo libro, pero eso sí, recuerda que principalmente debes leer por gusto, no por imposición o porque un libro esté de moda, hazlo porque quieres hacerlo, porque la historia te atrae, si aún después de aplicar los métodos que acabo darte o cualquier otro que hayas aprendido, el libro que intentas leer no captura tu atención, no significa que sea un mal libro, sino que simplemente no es para ti, personalmente creo que debe existir química entre los libros y los lectores, eso es algo infaltable.
Well, my friends, these are the five tips that have never failed me when it comes to start reading a new book, but remember that you must read for pleasure, not because you are forced to or because a book is in trend, do it because you want to, because the story attracts you, if even after applying the methods I have just given you or any other you have learned, the book you are trying to read does not capture your attention, it does not mean it is a bad book, but simply that it is not for you, I personally believe that there must be chemistry between books and readers, that is something infallible.
