This was one of my Poems to remind other Rotarians that their efforts were appreciated but to ensure whilst being proactive, our dues (Monetary Contributions) needed to be paid, I had been nominated and voted for, as the Accounting Representative and it was my responsibility to fix the books.
It was about the greatest good for the Greatest Number, and helping those that needed it, but whilst being a Rotarian here in the Philippines was considered prestigious, it was also meant for those that could afford to put their money where their mouth is, it sent out the wrong message if equality amongst our Club was not reflected through everyone paying there dues on time. I thought I would say it best in a Poem.
We work as one to help the Community,
To share our blessings, to assist the majority,
To actively strive to make a difference in their lives,
We don't do this for pride but to see endless smiles
Although our help is for the day in hope for the future,
We spread goodwill to create a new culture,
Of service above self, personal differences aside,
It's not about the money, its the moral fiber I have realized.
Stronger as one, a collective approach,
Without the support, its a team without a coach,
And a team without a coach allows egoism and doubt,
To cloud judgment on bright people, an open mind becomes closed out.
Being active and willing will always lead to success,
But no money no honey, words are just meaningless,
To survive and strive to be the very best,
Pay your dues at the earliest.
As you could understand, it was not taken positively by some members who brought many excuses to the table, but bills needed to be paid and service above self was never discussed as being free. Despite the negativity caused I collected the money that was outstanding and organized another Mission. Sometimes it pays to be the guy seen as the "Bad Guy". You can't please everyone!
