This afternoon, we went out to get some sun on the street where the house where we live is located. We sat on the edge of the curbstone of the house next door, right where the beautiful garden we tend there is.
Esta tarde, salimos a tomar un poco de sol en la calle en la cual se ubica la casa donde residimos. Nos sentamos en el borde del brocal de la vivienda contigua, justo donde está el hermoso jardín que cuidamos allí.
A few minutes later we wanted to take some pictures among the flowers and so we spent some time. When we were about to go back to sit down again, I discovered a bumblebee. So I immediately asked to borrow my cell phone to take a picture of it.
Minutos después quisimos tomarnos unas fotografías entre las flores y así pasamos un rato. Cuando ya nos disponíamos a regresar para sentarnos nuevamente descubrí un abejorro. Así que de inmediato pedí que me prestaran el celular para fotografiarlo.
It caught my attention because of its colors. Its thorax is very colorful because it is marked with yellow and black stripes, as well as the hairs that cover it. As far as I remember, so far I only knew black bumblebees.
Me llamó mucho la atención por sus colores. Su tórax es muy vistoso por estar marcado a rayas amarillas y negras, así como por los pelos que lo recubren. Según recuerdo, hasta el momento solo conocía abejorros negros.
This insect would perch from flower to flower, perhaps extracting nectar to feed, although according to my research, its main function is based on pollination. In each of the colorful flowers it lasted only a couple of seconds, so at first it was difficult to get a clear picture. The first few were blurry.
Este insecto iba posándose de flor en flor, quizás extrayendo el néctar para alimentarse, aunque según investigué, su principal función se basa en la polinización. En cada una de las coloridas flores duraba solo un par de segundos, por lo que al principio se me dificultó obtener una fotografía nítida. Las primeras quedaron borrosas.
After tracking the bumblebee I was finally able to get better pictures, although sometimes it flew away before I could press the digital shutter of the mobile device.
Tras el rastro del abejorro por fin pude obtener mejores fotografías, aunque algunas veces volaba antes de que pudiera presionar el obturador digital del dispositivo móvil.
National Geographic warns that bumblebees, which are among the most primordial insects in the pollination process, are in danger. Among the recommendations, researchers urge planting native flowers so that these relatives of the bees can feed and fulfill their role in the ecosystem.
National Geographic alerta que los abejorros, que son unos de los insectos más primordiales en el proceso de polinización, están en peligro.
