In the 21st century, the world of education has changed a lot. One of the most felt is digitalization in education. It forces people out of the traditional, and also out of egocentricity; i.e. creating solutions based on the experience of many, not a one-size-fits-all model

This is also a challenge for the world of education, teachers must indirectly be able to answer the challenges of the times. The goal of education in this century is to create students who can have a variety of skills and be useful to them. There are challenges, of course there are solutions, now one solution to answer these challenges is the STEAM learning movement.

Understanding STEAM.

STEAM is an educational concept, namely (Science, technology, engineering, art, and math. One expert in the world of education said that STEAM education is an interdisciplinary approach to learning. In which students are educated using the approach of science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics,

The presence of STEAM allows teachers to be more adaptive to the times. This system needs synergy between the design of the education process and the latest developments in knowledge. STEAM is not only an answer to the challenges of 21st century education, but also can create a skilled future generation.

STEAM learning concept

The STEAM learning framework not only teaches students to think critically or teach them how to solve problems. But more than that, the STEAM framework is more complex, here students are also prepared to be able to have skills so that they can work in the fields they want according to their skills in the future.

STEAM aims to increase student involvement and activity to be more creative and innovative. And skilled in problem solving. Although the STEAM concept has been known since 1970, this concept is also increasingly popular in the 21st century. The popularity of STEAM in this century is due to this approach using a project-based teaching model. Sheingga holistically can encourage students to be more skilled.

Practice STEAM Approach

In practice, the STEAM approach needs to be collaborated with several learning models, one of the suitable models for the STEAM approach is PBL or problem based learning. This is according to the direction of the experts. However we must understand some frameworks before starting to use the STEAM approach

There are at least some frameworks in the STEAM approach. Another one is. identify the main activities, then look at the specific benefits that can be achieved, then identify the sub-activities, then explore the social aspects involved, then choose a matrix in data collection, and finally explore individual benefits.
