A few days ago I was walking through the Vedado area in the heart of Havana, and I stopped at the El Quijote park, which I already told you about here.
I had fun taking photos of the park and remembering the beautiful moments of my university days.
Then I sat down to rest under the shade of a large tree and immediately saw a black bird, which we called Totí or choncholí, which was walking on the leaf litter and taking food with its beak. I couldn't see if they were insects or another thing. I stood closer to him and started taking photos. He was making sounds as if calling to other totes or to his partner who was further away. I got the impression that he was used to being around humans and that this park was his, we were the intruders. I was able to take several photos of him but without moving from place to avoid scaring him.
Hace pocos días estuve caminando por la zona del Vedado en el corazón de La Habana, y me detuve en el parque de El Quijote, del cual ya les hablé aquí. Me entretuve tomando las fotos del parque y recordando los lindos momentos de mi etapa universitaria.
Luego me senté a descansar bajo la sombra de un gran árbol y enseguida divisé a un pájaro negro, el cual lo llamamos Totí o choncholí, que estaba caminando sobre la hojarasca y tomando cosas de comida con su pico, no pude ver si eran insectos u otra cosa. Me situé más cerca de él y comencé a tomarle fotos. Él estaba haciendo sonidos como llamando a otros totíes o a su pareja que estaba más lejos. Me dio la impresión que estaba acostumbrado a estar cerca de los humanos y que ese parque era suyo, los intrusos somos nosotros. Pude tomarle varias fotos pero sin moverme de lugar para no asustarlo.
This bird is endemic to Cuba, it can be found both in the countryside and in the city, its feathers are black and shiny with certain violet reflections, its legs and beak are also black.
In the countryside it likes to feed on rice fields like other birds. But there is a very popular phrase: “all the birds eat rice and the toti bears the blame.”
I liked sharing these photos with you since I really enjoy nature, I always stop to contemplate the birds, I look at them with a certain desire to be like them for a moment, to be able to fly freely hahaha.
Esta ave es endémica de Cuba, se pueden encontrar tanto en el campo como en la ciudad, sus plumas son negras y brillantes con cierto reflejos violetas, sus patas y su pico son también negros.
En el campo le gusta alimentarse de los sembrados de arroz al igual que otros pájaros. Pero existe una frase muy popular: “todos los pájaros comen arroz y la culpa la carga el toti”.
Me gustó compartir estas fotos con ustedes ya que disfruto mucho de la naturaleza, siempre me detengo a contemplar las aves, las miro con ciertas ansias de ser como ellas por un momento, poder volar libremente jajaja.
