Hi guys, I hope you are having a happy weekend.
Today I want to share with you what was for me a spectacular weekend ride in my last days in Mexico.
The Nevado de Toluca is one of the many volcanoes that Mexico has, and is a tourist attraction for everyone who visits the State of Mexico. It is located in the valley of Toluca at about 4600 meters above sea level.
Although it is called snowy not every month of the year is covered by snow, only in winter is that you can see it completely covered with snow, I imagine it must be a spectacle to see it like that, but in this case, we went in summer so it was clear, but it is still a show because you can appreciate well all its corners.
The journey from where we parked the car to the crater is approximately 2 km, a journey that we made in a slow walk because the climb is quite steep, and if you are not used to these heights you have to make several stops to rest your heart.
I must confess that when I started to climb I got slight dizziness and my heart almost jumped out of my chest because I started walking very fast to get there quickly, but it was a mistake, I had to make several stops to rest because there were times when I could not breathe well.
So if you get to visit the Nevado de Toluca, you have to be in good condition or do it very slowly, and above all go very well wrapped up because it is very cold when you are climbing, but once you enter the crater you no longer feel the air.
My very patient daughter would stop on the way to wait for us, she goes to the gym so it was easy for her to get on without a problem. 💪
After you reach the crater, the descent begins, at the bottom, there are two lagoons called Laguna del Sol and Laguna de la Luna. There are also some small bushes and mountains of sand and volcanic rock, something curious is that we did not see a single bird on our tour or a lizard, nor feel air inside the crater, where we could rest from the cold.
Being in that huge hole causes a little fear, but it is a great experience, I had never visited a volcano and it was really a very exhausting excursion but at the same time very satisfying, the view of the volcano and the landscapes are impressive. I think it is a tour you can't miss if you go to Toluca.
Time for a short break after so much walking.
And of course, after so much effort, we could not let the lunch break pass us by.
Already exhausted and starving we stop at the restaurant that is just down the mountain, it is a must stop, there are several food stalls.
And to regain strength we ate some tacos and a tortilla soup that although it may not seem so, it was very good, we also had some chocolate to warm us up.
