The Unbothered Me

Even till this day I still battle with two serious problems: procrastination and lackadaisical attitude.

Of course, procrastination has been discussed again and again. It is a known habit that kills time, ruins lives and waste away destiny. At some point I even came across the phrase, "Royal Procrastinator" on this blockchain. The first day I saw that I couldn't stop laughing because it looks like that was the perfect way to describe a dude like myself. It was hilarious and painful at the same time; it was the truth.

However, I have lost more to this laissez-faire kind of doing things than procrastination. Without stressing oneself, these two terrible habits go hand in hand. In fact, it looks like one habit leads to the other and vice-versa. If you have a lackadaisical attitude towards doing things, regular and compulsive procrastination is one of the ways to easily know that.

Also, if one is a "royal procrastinator", taking action towards important matters becomes a very uncomfortable thing. Important steps to be taken in 5 minutes that can save 5 hours of hard labour becomes a problem. One begins to postpone that five minute action till it's too late to salvage. Then, a frantic last minute rescue act becomes activated to save the day. At times, it works. In a lot more cases, it fails and one is left with regrets over avoidable losses.

If there is one trait that has stunted my growth the most, it is my laid back attitude to doing things. For some unbelievable reasons, I just believe everything will get done in due time. If we were living in a perfect world, that would've been ideal. But we live in a world of intense competition; a world where the strong devours the weak.

A typical example was when I was job hunting a couple of years back. I got referred to a person for a job opportunity. Due to my attitude, I didn't contact the HR guy I was referred to. It took me three whole days to muster the strength to pick up my phone and dial the number I was given. When I introduced myself, the dude just told me the position was filled that same day. He said he checked my profile and I was a good fit for the job but I never reached out on time. That was a very good job I lost right there.

When I later sat down to query myself, I couldn't stop asking why I didn't put a call through to the person on time. Funnily enough, I couldn't come up with an answer. All I needed to do was call this guy and introduce myself. The convo will be over in less than five minutes. During that three day period, I spent about six hours playing games, I spent another six watching movies. But I couldn't sneak out five minutes to make a life changing call.

As for the solution to this chronic problem of mine, I think I have gotten better after losing so much. Now, I take action as fast as possible. But then, it's still about half of the time. That means the other half still gets delayed till whenever I feel like doing it. In fact, it's one of the reasons why I do go for three days without making a single post on this blockchain. I assume I'll do it when the time is right and the time will just run out eventually.

Like I said earlier, I have gotten better. However, I believe there is room for improvement. I can do more; I can maximize opportunities more. In fact, I will do more from now on.😎
