Long Braid [5 minutes freewrite]

in #hive-161155last year

It has been a week lying down on this so-called mattress, staring at the dark painted panels fitted above. The light bulbs glowing their brightest, like tiny stars in the dark night, could not even illuminate the room properly. Everything in here is a standard mess when it comes to look and comfort, except for this pretty lady in white overalls that comes around during the day shifts.

The thoughts of how much I have missed my neighbor, Julie, kept disrupting my sleep. I really need to leave this place in the shortest possible time. Hopefully, my last shot arrives by noon, and I get to say my goodbyes after settling the accumulated health-care bills in my name.

Few hours later, the ward screen was pushed aside, and the nurse walked straight up to me carrying a medicine tray and file. 'Mr. Sufee, this would be your last shot given. The medications you would need to take daily at home has been handed over to the lady that settled the bills and processed your discharge paperwork.', she said, as the plunger of the syringe went all the way in.

Just as I was about to get up and find my way out to see who the mystery lady who brought me here in the first place and has also cleared my bills is, someone walked in. She was carrying a bag with straps made of a long braid of gold colored leather cords. 'This looks like the handbag I gave Julie as a birthday present.', I thought out loud, and without thinking twice, shouted 'Julie! Is that you?'

This is a 5-minute freewrite in response to the prompt 'long braid' which you can find in this post.
