Happy Father's Day
Today is Father's Day in Australia which is on the first Sunday of September each year, I have come to learn on Hive, a few nations hold these celebrations on different days. But no matter the country It's a day dedicated to honouring the love, dedication and hard work of fathers and father figures.
This year, the day took on a new level of significance for me as I attended my son's kindergarten Father's Day event which is his first year of kinder. He was super excited to see me as he had no idea I was attending.
I told a little fib the night before and said I couldn't make it because I had work, I could see his disappointment in me as I said those words, but his eye's lighting up when I attended and his cheeky smile of "you tricked me dad". To which I responded, "of course, I wouldn't miss this for the world you should know that".
The kindergarten had been buzzing with preparations for this special event for weeks. My son had been dropping hints about a surprise he was working on, his eyes sparkling with excitement. As the day approached I could sense his anticipation growing as he told me all about the surprise he was making me but I couldn't see it until he got home.
As I entered the kindergarten was beautifully decorated with colourful banners, balloons and hand-painted signs that read "Happy Father's Day." There was even a dedicated chair made for taking pictures.
As I entered the classroom my son ran up to me his face lighting up with a huge smile. He grabbed my hand and led me to a table that was set up with art supplies, paints, brushes, crayons, and sheets of paper. This was our activity corner for the day, where we would spend time creating something together.
We then settled down to paint and draw together. My son took charge telling me it was a messy activity and we needed to use our hands. As we painted side by side he talked about his favourite toys and introduced me to his friends and how they like playing on the swings, building with blocks and reading storybooks. It was wonderful to see his world through his eyes, to share in his daily joys and activities.
As we left the kindergarten that day holding my son's hand and his precious handmade gifts it was a really joyous occasion. Father's Day had always been a special day, but this year it was more meaningful than ever. It wasn't about the presents or the activities, but about the time spent together and the joy shared, and the love that filled the air. Happy Father's Day, indeed!
Time to head off to get some brunch at a local cafe and to all the Hive Dad's, Happy Fathers day!
