Welcome to Kiaburi Chicken Rice

Hi there! Welcome to my blog. How’s everyone doing? I hope you’re all doing great. Today, I’d like to take you on a virtual tour of a well-known spot in Ranau, Sabah. The place I’m introducing is Restoran Kiaburi Chicken Rice, located in a small town called Kiaburi. The restaurant is named after this town.

Recently, the restaurant went through some renovations. I’m not sure how long it’s been, but I absolutely love the new look! It’s more spacious now, and the menu has expanded quite a bit.

Their menu has been upgraded since our last visit, which I think was early last year. They still have their classic dishes like nasi ayam penyet, nasi ayam lemon, nasi goreng Pattaya, nasi ayam roast, nasi ayam steam, kalapia goreng with rice, set ikan bahulu, and mee goreng. But now, they’ve added new items like pau, waffles, steamed buns, cakes, and steamed corn. The dishes that caught my attention include butter prawns, garlic sautéed mustard greens, asam pedas curry with rice, fish soup, chicken liver with mushrooms, tofu with mushrooms, butter chicken, and nasi paprik. There’s so much to choose from, I couldn’t list them all! For those looking for halal food, this restaurant is highly recommended.

They’ve also introduced a counter for making waffles, steamed buns, cakes, and steamed corn, which is something new we noticed during our visit last week. When someone orders a waffle, the smell fills the restaurant, tempting others to order one too!

When you order food, they give you a long menu printed on a sheet of paper with small text. You just tick your choices on the sheet. On top of that, you can request custom dishes as long as the kitchen has the ingredients. For example, some experienced diners ordered steamed tilapia, which isn’t even on the menu. Pretty cool, right?

Last week, when my family and I visited, my kids ordered roasted chicken and butter prawns, my wife had Penang laksa, and I ordered tilapia fish head curry (asam pedas style). Since we’re big fans of plain white rice, we all paired our dishes with it. It’s our family tradition to have rice at least twice a day. The fish head curry quickly became my new favorite dish—I even had two extra plates of rice just to finish it off!

Honestly, we didn’t visit this restaurant much before because their menu was limited. But now, it’s definitely one of our favorites. There are still plenty of dishes we want to try, and I can’t get enough of that tilapia fish head curry!
