Crimes are what make our society dangerous for the living, loss of lives and properties are the order of crimes happening. Giving punishment to those who are behind these crimes should be justifiable, for the safety of the others and for the crime to stop happening even though this doesn't seem to work out as more criminals are caught.
I'm in no support of criminals but yes, I also think there are crimes that are justifiable but they can not go unpunished, I just think they don't deserve huge sentences or death punishment as other crimes may deserve even if it had involved the death of another. It's kinda hard to think about it this way but we've seen or heard such situations.
Let's be frank, not all crimes gets to the law stand to be punished even though there are like a thousand criminals in a society but somehow, these unlucky first time criminals who still have a conscience but unfortunate situations made them criminals get caught and are given what I'll call unfair sentences to set example to others.
I think I'll understand some crimes being punished lightly except the motive changes or the person in question is caught again doing the same act, there are a few of these crimes I can choose to be partial to, some of them are self defence, defending others, out of necessity, whistleblowing or trying to survive in a disaster.
But the one crime I can very much be partial with most is Civil Disobedience, engaging in non-violent protests or acts of defiance to challenge the unjust laws or bring attention to pressing issues in the society. As a Christian, I am made to understand that citizens are to obey the laws of the land strongly but there are exceptions to this.
A Government shouldn't be forcing unjust laws on the people just because they have the power to do so, especially when it begins to cost the lives of the citizens at some point. It is okay for a citizen or citizens to raise alarm by protesting or even acting in defiance to rules on ground before just so they could be heard and things changed.
Sadly, so many have lost their lives to protests they carried out with a good motive. I've hardly seen a protest go peacefully and the people voices are heard with no death count or injuries but I think this crime shouldn't be punished heavily but instead, the motive should be paid attention to during the punishment declaration.
Of course, I know humans to always want to feel entitled about what they think is normal. These justifiable crimes shouldn't be made known to the public that they are, as some could under this umbrella commit more crimes and portray them as being innocent to be free or get light sentences. Instead, more work for investigations.
In conclusion, no crime should go unpunished but depending on the kind of crime committed or the motive behind the crime, there should be some justice and mercy to the punishment given.
