Nowadays, people are more conscious about their diet. Eating well is one of the best ways to stay healthy and live a fuller life. There are many ways to eat better, the internet is full of people who teach you how to do it, and having so many varieties and ways is a good thing. Each person can adapt better to a lifestyle that suits their way of living and even thinking. Some of these styles are even controversial and lead us to reflect.
I understand little about veganism and I know that it is linked not only to a search for a healthier life, but also to an ideology of life and protection of animals. That's basically what I know. Looking at it, I think it's incredible. We can't imagine how much animals suffer to get to our tables, they are lives being traded and exploited, sometimes in deplorable conditions. I don't think it's humane to do what is done to animals. We know that everything these days is based on profit, but isn't there room for a little humanity?
Well, if the aim of veganism is to protect, save and spread this kind of thinking in people, I support it, I think it's really incredible. But if I'm going to adopt this lifestyle for myself, that's another story. I don't rule out the possibility of doing so if one day I understand a bit more about the subject. I believe that there should be a way to ensure that the animals we consume have a less suffering life, but consuming only food that doesn't come from animals would be a big challenge. I've got used to this way of eating and I love eating meat and animal by-products. I don't know if I could give up good old cheese, which is one of my favorite foods.
Another point that adds a little more difficulty to becoming vegan is the fact that this type of food tends to be more expensive and not always as tasty. Actually, I don't know if they are tasty or not, as I've never tried them, but from what I've seen, it doesn't seem to be one of the best things. It takes creativity to build menus that are appetizing, and I don't think that's an easy task.
Trying is something I think is possible, but being vegan for life... I don't know who could do that. Perhaps a more conscious type of consumption would be the best alternative for me. This can be done by checking out how the companies from which I consume the most meat and meat products treat their animals: how they are slaughtered and milked, how the animals live and are treated. I think it's very complicated to change the lifestyle of the entire planet, but making people aware of it is more plausible and accessible. I don't know exactly if vegans value spreading their ideology to people or if they just do what they think is right, but if spreading this kind of thinking is easier to do, why not? Besides, your life could be healthier...
