Greetings friends! Today I want to share this Wednesday trip with you, I went on vacation for a week from Chimbote, Peru, to the capital Lima. We left in a bus of the America Express line, where we paid 45 soles the ticket, an approximate of 12$ per person.

We visited several places, but we started with the Basilica Metropolitan Cathedral of Lima and Primate of Peru. This beautiful building has the peculiarity of having catacombs and crypt inside, where there are still many human remains, since in ancient times there were no cemeteries, and the church was the place where the dead were left.

We arrived at the Cathedral and they charged us 10 soles or 3$ per person for the guided tour, (There are guides in English, French, Portuguese, Spanish).

They showed us the architecture of the place and let us enter 3 of the 12 catacombs. There we learned about the trousseau of the dead and saw some of the human remains that have been in this place for centuries.

We were able to see the remains of Francisco Pizarro, the Spanish conquistador who founded Lima. In addition, we were shown the 2 reconstructions that the Cathedral has had, since it has fallen 2 times. Once with an earthquake and once with a car bomb placed by terrorism.

There are many images, which highlights that of St. Rose of Lima, patron saint of the Peruvian Catholic faith, and the Virgin of Guadalupe, which is of great adoration by the Mexican community in Lima.

They showed us many gifts that the church has received from visiting popes. One gift they treasure in a special place is that of John Paul II, who gave the clothes and shoes he used on his first trip to Peru.

This is the Wednesday walk that I share with you this week. I hope you like it, see you next time to continue telling you about this trip.

Visitemos la Catedral de Lima - Perú

¡Saludos amigos!
