Art and Science of Trading - The Concept of Flow State

Hi guys 👋 I find it fascinating how people devise intricate trading strategies, but mine is simply listening to my inner voice. I claim to do TA and know what am doing, but really do I?

I might recognize patterns from time to time, but that can go very wrong very quick as history doesn’t always repeat itself, nothing has matched that inner voice.

Surprisingly, it's led to outperforming many others, leading me to believe divine intervention played a role because logically, it doesn't make sense and I’m not even playing.

Most of my wins in trading are small sized trades mostly because of fear of loosing my capital so I give myself too little or no credit.

It’s like how people claim Messi is blessed beyond talent, yes you may ask what Messi has to do with trading, but I can categorically liken what Messi does on the field with trading. His ability to read the game, make split-second decisions, and execute flawlessly can be compared to the intuitive leaps and gut feelings that guide my trading decisions.

Trading By Feeling is like Dribbling

Messi's genius on the pitch often looks effortless, like he's playing on a different level than everyone else. Similarly, when I listen to my inner voice, it's like tapping into a deeper understanding of the market that goes beyond charts and numbers. It’s like there’s a voice telling him, go here, turn there, stop there….at the perfect times.

It’s like some people just have a “hand of God” on their heads that gives results that just training cannot give. This might sound mystical, but in trading, as in sports, sometimes there are elements that defy conventional logic.

Think about the concept of flow state, often described in psychology. When athletes, artists, or even traders enter this state, they perform at their peak, seemingly effortlessly. It's a state where intuition, skill, and timing converge perfectly.

The Pulse of the market

You’re just there doing the right thing at the right time without planning it. Listening to your inner voice is like tuning into the market’s subconscious. It’s like feeling the pulse of the market, sensing the undercurrents that charts and data might miss. This doesn’t mean ignoring data – it means integrating it with your instincts.

Moreover, this approach brings a certain joy and satisfaction to trading. It’s not just about the profits but the art of it. Like Messi weaving through defenders, there’s an artistry in trading by intuition. It’s deeply personal and profoundly satisfying when it works.

Achieving peak performance

So, while others may perfect their algorithms and strategies, I’ll continue to trust in that inner voice, that hand of God guiding my decisions. Because in the end, trading is as much an art as it is a science.

At some point I’ll make that leap of trading with larger sizes, But for now, I'm content with honing my skills and trusting that inner voice. Each small win builds my confidence and sharpens my intuition.

I know it might seem unconventional, but this method works for me. It’s about finding what resonates with you and sticking to it. Trading is deeply personal, and there’s no one-size-fits-all approach. Whether you rely on detailed technical analysis or, like me, tune into that inner voice, the key is to remain adaptable and open to learning.

What do you guys think?

Thanks for reading.
